Running yes, up to point. The benefits of the two activities overlap to a 60-70% degree. Regarding sparring, you'd see just better conditioning, I believe ( which could potentially be a big improvement, depending where you are at right now)

      This.

You get cardio at whatever intensity you apply yourself; but the balance of muscle use in your legs is different when cycling than when running.

This is true. Cycling legs look better than running legs by a long shot. Huge ass thighs and calves.

Cyclists lift to climb hills faster, and running uphill would put you to similar stress

And what about "sprinter's physique"? They also lift.

To me cycling is so fricking easy I would need to do it 4h a day for it to feel like a workout so I'd rather run or spar for like one hour instead.

That's what I thought as well until I joined one cycling lesson in my gym. One full hour of non-stop moving your legs FAST. I literally thought I would have a heart attack but didn't stop because I'd be the only one to pussy out. Haven't done it since.

try keeping up with a group of decent cyclists
i ended up behind a group of 40 year old boomers the other week after a 30 mile cycle and thought im young and fit, i can easily keep up with these geriatric old men
i got absolutely btfo, i was going as hard as i could but they disappeared after 2 turns

      That's because you're cycling like a b***h
Unironically try a spin class where they will push you to ride far beyond your comfort level

Change it up with some sprinting as fast as you can in-between and see how long you can do that.

Yeah it’s good cardio and endurance training hierarchy usually looks like hill sprints>swimming>jumping rope>trail running>Mountain biking>running>cycling>jogging>walking>jerking off

your overall endurance will increase but as the first two posters have said, it doesn't develop the same leg muscles that are used in running, so when you do try running again, your lungs will feel fine but your legs will tire out first

It works the same muscles, but with different contractions. So when you change activity there will be a period of lowered performance because you haven't "learned" to do the new activity efficiently yet. But you will be able to progress quickly because you have the raw material required.

i love mixing cycling and running.
to me it seems both are own endurance systems. felt i was really good endurance wise with cycling but then went for a run and was smoked.

do both for max fun and versatility.
    best mode:
    >cycle to lake
    >run around it
    >swim in it
    >cycle home

quad ability for work - yes
Lung capacity - yes (if you work on hills and sprints)
Over all endurance - no not really

I lifet 5x a week and cycle 3-4x. mostly 10miles with 1 long ride on the weekends with a ton of hills

I fricking lov cycling bros. Has definitely helped me remain strong and lean.

You will, but more so doing enduro or mtb than road cycling. You need high and variable intensity, explosiveness, for it to translate better to an increased performance in martial arts.

      what exercise contribute in "explosiveness"?

MTB is great for developing explosive power and increasing lactic threshold. Road cycling is great for zone 2 training. Running works different muscles in the legs and will make your gas tank bigger on the bike. Most serious road cyclist cross train with occasional running.

Are you trainning for endurance running?

Back when I used to train for triathlon I had 4 bike sessions per week. A long session would be 5h+ and i remember being easy to run a 20km base sessions.
Although, if you want to specifically get better at running then focus on running 50+mi per week and ditch the bike.
