Working out while travelling

I'm going backpacking in Asia for 6 months and don't wanna lose all my gains.

What's a good bodyweight calisthenics routine I could do while on the road when a gym is around?

Do pushups while wearing your heavy ass back pack. Not only will you not lose gains, but you just might end up looking better than before you left.

Find a chick to go with you or meet one there. Every day, pick her up and frick her; and as you do, do squats while you leverage hip thrusts to failure. Then take an hour long break, repeat, this time have her sit on your face and then OHP her till failure.

Then take another hour long break, finally, to get that abs and cardio routine in, prone bone to failure. That composes the big three workouts you'll need to keep your gains.

just turn it into a 6 month cut. you don't "lose" your gains. whatever you built up to comes back way faster than it took to build the first time.

Its true, Ive got no study to post, but from myself and my friends who used to be fit in teenage years/twenties then fell off because of whatever reasons and started training again. Surprising transformations within months.

Myself, Ive got severe colitis and for the last 4 years have been under 63kg and over 77 at least twice a year.

Took a tree planting job last summer which is basically cardio in the woods all day for 4 months. Went in 220lbs, came out 180lbs. 4plate deadlift to 2plate deadlift lol. Started lifting again in September, gained all my previous strength back by December, hit a 5plate deadlift in February. Really easy to get it back.

you do still have to put forth an effort. you just get back to old milestones much faster off that effort.

pretty sure Arnold has brought this up famously, thats the only citation you should need.

How much money are you planning to spend
    Are you going alone
How much money do you have
I have a shit life and I need to change it drastically by any means necessary or else I will end up killing myself. Please answer my three questions OP

not OP but I traveled across the globe, worked/studied and lived in 3.5 continents kek (.5 being turkey as idk if its asia or europe)

      >How much money are you planning to spend & How much money do you have
rule of thumb is for developing world you should have 50-60 USD per day and world first world you should have 100-120 USD at least, accommodation included, this should be enough for decent time, and some days might be cheaper than 60 usd for asia, and the other day can have the remaining balance added on top of it for better night outs etc
so 2000 USD for a month should be enough
      >Are you going alone
lot of people can and do go alone, stay in hostels from hostelworld.com, talk to people like you, suggest stuff to do, use bumble BFF and meetup if you are in town for more than a month

if you are a white male you should have very easy time finding friends

I think only americans out of all the developed world have a certain dislike for international experiences
people from EU and AUS, NZ live for this shit, almost everyone from Western EU or nordics spend some years abroad for professional / personal reasons

Nobody has a dislike for international experiences. They have a dislike for people trying to talk down on others like it's some kind of achievement.

This, I've travelled a bit and nothing I lothe more about people that went to some destination and they spend the rest of their lives talking about that 1 day 1 time forever...
They really think taking a bus / train / plane to a destination and then taking a couple of selfies is a monumental achievement.

Around 1000-1500 USD a month excl. flights and vaccines
      Yes
      Just enough

Funny you should say because the reason I'm leaving is because I would probably kill myself if I didn't too. The gym is not enough to keep my depression away from my 9-5 job and cribling loneliness.

      >Not very many sources of protein are good for hiking like that
Backpacking means he is going on a long holiday 5-6 months while living on as little money as possible. Basically going to live in 3rd world shitholes with the 3rd worlders so he can say he feels so cultured when he returns. It's not uncommon for this filth to even beg the locals. They also expect to eat at the same prices as the starving locals peasants without even trying to learn their languages. Backpackers are just scum.

The world is our ashtray. Deal with it.

6 months is a long ass time. Expect to lose gains.
    Book hotels with gyms (duh).
    Buy resistance bands.
Be prepare to do ghetto gym shit

If I were you I would do the following

    Chest + Tri
    Pushups + variations
Dips (Can be done on a chair)
Use bands or other heavy objects for tri pullover or kickbacks
Use bands for single arm chest press (Attach it somewhere like on a door)

    Shoulders + Bi
    Resistance band shoulder press
    Resistance band lateral raises
Seated bend over rear delt raises with whatever object
Resistance bands curls + hammer curls
Pickup on your luggage bags and do weighted curls

    Back + Legs
Grab something heavy and do slow front squats
    Weighted lunges
    Bulgarian Split Squats
    Resistance band rows
    Pullups
    Chinups

If done correctly even this is enough to achieve something respectable until you return in 6 months. Done with high intensity it's more than enough. When possible go to a proper gym at a hotel and do a proper workout.

You can also easily bring something to fill with water to add a big more weight. You can make it work if you really want. Plenty of people out there doing calisthenics routines. Just youtube and pick the exercises you want and can do.

  12. 12 months ago
    Anonymous

alternatively, if you have the means, you could stay in hostels with dumbbels or 3-4 star hotels with OK-ish gyms.
what I do is I aim to pick hotels with a gym and do all body 2 hour workouts twice max a week usually before better nights for a quick buff as you know, its a holiday.

    otherwise just do
    >push ups
    >chin ups
    >pull ups
    >squats
    >planks, side planks
    >something for triceps, maybe square push ups? if you dont have bars

but cold hard truth is if you have a routine it will be disrupted, but you only live once, so dont care about it that much and enjoy

I always thought backpacking seemed cool. I've always wanted to backpack the AT, CDT, and PCT. But you're making me question it. If it's not possible to achieve without being a total bum then it's not worth it.

That being said, all I was really trying to say was if he is concerned about losing muscle mass/gains then shouldn't he be concerned about protein is all. I doubt he would be able to carry food sources with high amounts of protein before they go bad.

if youd have any significant amount of muscle youd know that working out isnt the problem but tracking the macros while eating out all the time and it being 40degrees celsius. so neither are you an experienced lifter with a notable amount of muscle you could lose nor are you even tracking calories digits and op dies

Keep in mind that people may feel afraid to talk to you in English because it's considered shameful in Asian society to speak in broken English, and everyone thinks their English is bad (even though it's much better than what you would find on the average American immigrant)

Buy gymnastics rings for 20$, put them in your backpack, hang them on a palm tree on the beach or a beam or anywhere else and you can do mostly anything. Ring dips are hard as shit, ring muscle ups are impossible. For leg day, might as well skip it.

There are some calisthenics parks or good gyms (expensive) - mosty in main cities, but don't count on it.
