What's a good weight and what distance should I aim for? I've not done these yet but I'm going to incorporate them into my workout soon enough

      Anonymous

As much as you can handle without your shoulders giving out, and at least 50 seconds worth of walking

So you don't aim for a set distance like 1km?

This is a full body workout moron you walk for a set amount of time

You should be going at more or less the same speed the whole time, or whether you frame your goal in terms of a distance or a time is up to you

If that is what you want just pack a fricksack and hike.
I do 5km every day with 14kg, except for the weekends where I usually do 8, 13 and 26km depending on my energy level/weather.

Could I do (v-)steps on a small aerobic step instead? I've got no threadmill, and walking in circles seems boring.

A farmer's walk is about equivalent to a trap bar deadlift of the same weight assuming you have proportional grip strength (the pickup is slightly easier than a trap bar deadlift because the handles are right by your side)
My farmers PR is 145kg per hand for 15m while my conventional dead PR is 270

Yeah, that's as long as the outdoor space is. Couldn't hold it after the pickup on the return leg, smooth handles on the ones at my gym as well which are fricking bastards
Got 130kg per hand there and back beltless+chalkless though

I do roughly 1/3 max deadlift weight per hand or lighter for 50' trips. If the weight is lighter I move quicker and do more trips. Heavy is best, I do these all the time.

If you want to be taller, yes. If you hang from your arms, you're just getting an arm workout.

How do I quantify these shits? My gym has the proper farmer handles but only about 11 meteres of runway, do just try to increase the weight over time or focus on laps/time taken? Idk how much the handles themselves weigh but I load up 60kg on each handle and do that for 2 laps a set for 3 sets.

Weight and distance, time becomes relevant for competing.

Not planning on competing, just looking to get some extra volume across the entire posterior chain as well as some forearm work, does what you said still apply?

          Anonymous

Remember it's supposed to be an explosive/power exercise, so still try and move quickly
Given you only have a 10m run I'd probably focus on building up weight

I do this with heavy bags. Feels harder to balance the heavy bags since the weight is distributed over a larger area so I have to be strict in my form to avoid tipping over.

20lb dumbbell farmers walk will do next to nothing. You should be over 100lbs minimum.

do they even make 100lb dumbbells??

Yes, but you should be doing these with farmers walk handles that are loadable or a trap bar.
