Sure, i am just saying the difference in cardio between being able to swim 500 meters in TWELVE FUCKING MINUTES
Compared to running 3km in 9 minutes is astronomical
One is the equivalent of a 14 year old kid who swims 2x a week, and the other is the speed of a dedicated runner athlete, it's mind boggling to me how these are in the same ''level'' of requirement
Makes sense from their perspective. If a seal is trying to swim a kilometer, something has gone terribly wrong. If a seal is trying to hoof it to an extract, that's just a normal day.
The only reason swimming is on there at all tbh is probably to filter out dumbfucks and morons who can't swim.
I don't know. I guess if Pvt. Dumbass falls off the boat he's got time to make it back. But if they gotta run from Mai Lai to Hue City they gotta go fast
Sure, 2.4, but it's a speed of 15.7kmh, that's FAST considering most active runners as in people who run every week multiple times run at around 12-14

Active runners could sprint for like half the way, it's only 2.4 km

Maybe, but if you're saying they're basically sprinting for 5 minutes to make up for another 4 minutes of ''jogging'' or whatever that still feels far fetched

a friend of mine who runs regularly did one of those races where you try to run as long a distance as possible in one hour and he did 14km and he wasn't even happy with the result. Sure if you half-ass running like I do running 2.4k in 9:30 is pretty fast, but if you take running seriously for like a year it should be very doable. Definitely takes more effort than the other requirements, but that's to be expected if you look at how they train soldiers

A 10:30 2.4km is equivalent to around a 23:00 5k it's really not that impressive. A fit and healthy 18-40 year old would be able to do that immediately if they play other cardio sports (football, tennis, cycling, swimming etc) or within a couple months of training.
9:30 is a bit more impressive and close to a 20:00 5k effort, this requires a bit more training but wouldn't be too hard for a healthy male.
There is a WORLD of a difference between running at ~15kmh for 2.4k and running at 15kmh for a 10k, half marathon or a marathon, but that's not the requirement here.

If you can't run 1.5 miles sub 10 minutes you are out of shape. It's maybe the cardio equivalent of 2pl8 bench. Not impressive in a competitive sense, but vastly better than non athletes

Not him but you think i could run 1.5 miles in 10 min if i do a 10k in like 48 minutes?
Anonymous
Very likely, you just have to find the right pace if you are not used to running shorter distances

in 48 miuntes >~208m per minute
So that's approximately 400m every 2 minutes, which means you're doing 1.5 miles (~2400m) in under 12 minutes (probably around 11:40). Pace is harder to train than distance, and a higher pace is more taxing than adding distance, too, but you should easily be able to convert to a ~10 min 2400 from a 48min 10k.

Not really? Most guys at my unit go sub 10, my PB is low 7 minutes
>1.5 miles >dedicated runner athlete
Bud, high school runners are doing 2mi/3.2km near 8:30. 9:30 is not "dedicated athlete" speed. That is "above average hobbyist" speed at best.
Maybe, but if you're saying they're basically sprinting for 5 minutes to make up for another 4 minutes of ''jogging'' or whatever that still feels far fetched
>sprinting for 5 minutes >needs another 4 minutes of jobbing to finish 1600 meters
Anyone who could run at a sprint for 5 minutes straight is also going to be doing it pretty quickly, and would like finish 1600m in close to 4 minutes. 2400 m would easily come in around 7ish minutes for someone like that.
You've just got no idea what you're talking about, friend. You should give running a try, you might be shocked by what you can accomplish. It takes about a month for the average male to get their 400m run under 1:30 from literally zero experience or physical fitness. A bit of dedication and you can easily ~1 min in 400m.
Easy peasy i can do all that because of my training day.
My normal training day:
Walk / run 1 hour
Pushup 75-100x
Pullup 30-45x
Situp 60-80x
Also dips and leg raise
haven't swan in lanes since childhood, maybe I'll try it at my gym sometime
I haven't swam since I was like 12 so I'd need to practice it but rn I'd stand no chance lol
everything else on the test is ezpz though
Maybe i'm a bit busted in the head, i used to be on a swimming team in my teens, but 500m in 12 minutes feels like a snails pace, breast stroke maybeee, but crawling? just lol
Interesting OP. So Navy Seals need you to run a 10:30 mile half? The entry for boot camp as a US Marine was 13:30 mile half. That's a 7 minute per mile speed for the seals, and a 9 minute per mile speed for entry level marines.
This is just entry level shit though, 1.5 miles is so short you should be able to maintain your run the full duration, sprinting the last quarter mile. Any one of you IST fucks should be able to average a 6.5 minute mile pace if the duration is only 1.5 miles.
the swimming I don't think i could do because I never swim. I run a 6 and a half minute mile but I never go past just 1 mile. the rest of that is laughably easy.
The documentary series that followed a group through the entire SEAL training was kino. It's from the early 2000s and is on youtube.
The funny part is that during the first few episodes you could tell that the instructors were pushing them harder than usual because of the cameras, because the dropout rate was much higher than for other classes. So they had to tone it down a lot to make sure everybody didnt flunk. By the end of it I think many of you will be surprised at how easy it actually is to become a SEAL, and that many of you would make it if you could just make it through hell week without sleep and be able to stay calm and collected while the instructors harrass you.
Buds is the program they have to go through to become SEALs. The stats OP posted is the requirements to be able to get into Buds. Like 70-80% of people who make it into Buds don't make it through to the end
FUCK the military. i applied for the special forces of my country. literally a dream of mine since i was a kid and finally decided fuck it im signing up. was in the top 2% of the physical test and passsed the initial screening. next step was going on some (supposedly extreme) bootcamp, but they rejected me because i have a fucking lazy eye. I am in the top 5% of eye sight but because one eye is not perfect I get rejected. Fuck off. Yes i’m still pissed about it. I have no other passion.
>I have no other passion.
If you are serious then go join the french foreign legion. Once you have been there for a few years you can go back to the special forces in your country and they will welcome you and your lazy eye into training
No chance.
Not anymore.
The average seal runs 10km in 38 minutes? That's fucking fast
To add to that
500m in 12 min swim is ridiculously slow
50 pushups/situps in 2 minutes i also a joke
10 pullups is a joke too
But what takes me off guard is the fucking run speed
16kmh run speed compared to the other physical requirements is fucking mental
Cardio is king in combat
Sure, i am just saying the difference in cardio between being able to swim 500 meters in TWELVE FUCKING MINUTES

It's 2.4km, why do you assume they could keep up the same pace for over 4 times as long?
they're all on steorids
I cant swim
Other than that, yeah, and im not even that fit
these requirements are joke
Even with these minimum requirements, 75% of those entering SEAL training fail and are kicked out.
Easy peasy i can do all that because of my training day.
My normal training day:
Walk / run 1 hour
Pushup 75-100x
Pullup 30-45x
Situp 60-80x

fairly easy honestly, not sure about the swim though, hardest on that list for sure
the average person should be able to do 30 second 50m lol
500 yards is 50m, meaning one lane, in a bit under 70 seconds, you're practically just cruising around staring at the ceiling at that speed
500 yards is 500m* ish
haven't swan in lanes since childhood, maybe I'll try it at my gym sometime
I haven't swam since I was like 12 so I'd need to practice it but rn I'd stand no chance lol

No. It's 450m
check
Maybe i'm a bit busted in the head, i used to be on a swimming team in my teens, but 500m in 12 minutes feels like a snails pace, breast stroke maybeee, but crawling? just lol
500 yards is 457 meters not 50 lmao
I would rather not delete an entire post to fix one zero

Nope, most of them are cripples or fat powershitters, I would say its only about 50% that can pass these old school standards for military fitness.
Everything besides the pull-ups, yes.
I suck at them so horribly, I barely manage to do a single one.
the swimming I don't think i could do because I never swim. I run a 6 and a half minute mile but I never go past just 1 mile. the rest of that is laughably easy.

isn't this worse than typical SEAL training?
Buds is the program they have to go through to become SEALs. The stats OP posted is the requirements to be able to get into Buds. Like 70-80% of people who make it into Buds don't make it through to the end
No, it's literally basic training for SEALs
The push ups they do are really just bullshit and don't engage your chest or triceps at all. Bitch pushups
The only real purpose of the navy seals is as a recruitment tool to fill the shittiest jobs in the navy.
The swimming requirements seem extremely easy
I didn't know their was swimming in the desert
>what is the persian gulf
I can't swim so no
FUCK the military. i applied for the special forces of my country. literally a dream of mine since i was a kid and finally decided fuck it im signing up. was in the top 2% of the physical test and passsed the initial screening. next step was going on some (supposedly extreme) bootcamp, but they rejected me because i have a fucking lazy eye. See your eye doc and see if you can get it fixed. Sometimes there surgery and stuff like that.
>I have no other passion.
If you are serious then go join the french foreign legion. Once you have been there for a few years you can go back to the special forces in your country and they will welcome you and your lazy eye into training
Swim possibly, run no, the rest yes
