Yoga

Anyone here doing yoga?
I want to pick up something for flexibility. Is it considered gay outside of class? And would I be considered a pervert in the class with mostly women?

About 2 cups a day is the upper limit for me, personally.

The answer to all your questions is a big NO. Almost nobody here does yoga; it’s not gay at all; you won’t be considered a pervert for that.
Enjoy and relax surrounded by 60-something women.

I went to one class and it was a mixture of all ages and men and women. That being said, some 60 year old yoga poon sounds ideal, I'll take two please.

You actually get all the respect of the dudes stuck in the weight room all the time, and no one gives you any shit if you're a guy in a female class unless you're obviously jerking it or staring where you shouldn't

        >getting healthy is beta
You sound like you need to work on your mental health more than your physical health. Some NFL players do ballet dancing in the off-season. Just exercise and stop worrying about what strangers or worse, w*men, think.

I've dabbled in yoga a bit, it does wonders not only for your flexibility but it's also harder in terms of balance and strength. Don't think that because your squats and deadlifts are heavy that you'll be able to master a difficult yoga pose on your first try. Also there are different styles of yoga and a lot depends on how your instructors teach them, you'll have to find a style/studio that fits what you're looking for.

Also hot damn I've been away from IST for a couple of years and the posting quality has definitely declined, you're all a bunch of homosexuals.

The key to Yoga is positioning within the class.
Take some time to scout out where people are putting their mats and see which girls are taking their socks off.
I always find going diagonal to a hot girl with her feet out to be optimum positional play.
Go behind and it’s obvious your creeping. The benefit of them being partly to the side is you can pretend your averting gaze from the person in front.

Yoga is good for flexibility, balance and the integration of the body-mind.

Yoga and meditation are natural allies to weightlifting. Be whole in every way.

If you do any female-dominated class long enough, one of them will develop a grudge against you for the tiniest of fricking reasons (usually an unathletic one.) When that happens, get behind her next class and just do your thing. They disappear for a bit after that.

The good part is that it's, as you said, "something for flexibility".
    It's a systematic approach.
But there's so much bullshit attached that's not worth doing like meditation, breathing exercises, vegetarianism, other hippy shit, etc.
And it's not really even a good system if you want to learn more advanced poses. I wanted to learn handstands and splits so I ignored the bullshit and just learned them the western way in a few months. Would've taken me years if I just did yoga.

Meditation is pretty damn awesome, but I agree that it is often attached to retrograde mystical bullshit, as it will often be the case with yoga. Check out this guided mindfulness meditation by Sam Harris, no spirituality or chakras or whatever bullshit linked to it:

That's because the more experienced practitioners have mystical experiences from meditation and yoga. Just accept that you are a pompous grasshopper and move forward with your practice

Listen, kid. We've all been through our eastern spirituality phase. It's best to accept it for what it is – worthless for us westerners.
I am a NORDIC WHITE BVLL and my EVROPEAN SOVL does not grow stronger from sitting in an awkward position, motionless, thinking about nothing. It grows through MEANINGFUL STRUGGLE.
I hope you find the way, brother.

Yoga is great. There are people on this board who do it but not enough for there to more than this identical thread approximately once a month. It is considered gay. There are always a couple guys even in mostly women classes and everyone is just there to do their thing anyways so nobody will give a shit. Just don't be a creep.

The meditation and breath work components are great, ignore the haters whose eyes glaze over just because some b***h starts talking about chakras or whatever. The actual practices are valuable even if the pseudoscience patter isn't.

meditation and breath work do something, but they do so little it's a waste of time
you could go on a walk in nature and it would be 1000x more beneficial for your mind, lungs, heart, stress levels, health, etc
