    People lift for a variety of reasons, some lift because they have sex addiction, some others because they're insecure about their muscular size, and others their physical strength measured in numbers. I went through all of these immature stages before I finally found what worked best--to enjoy it. Maybe one day the people who care about their numbers more than the act of lifting themselves will come to realize the joy of lifting. Until then you can look at that gym fetish-wear as a red flag, don't make friends with them, and move on with your own life.

          Without chalk or other creative assistance, it is going to be your weakest grip. Sweat between the bar and your hands is one thing, but when sweat is between skin it just ain't holding.
          With chalk or other creative assistance, pretty much the only limiting factors are of course grip strength and then how used to the grip your thumbs are. Maybe you're trying it for the first time on your heavy sets and it hurts like hell, and that'll cause you to put down the weight. But if your nerves or desensitized from frequent hook grip or you just plain push through the pain, it holds.
