How do I work out that part of the brain? Is that that part that tells me to hate israelites and Black folk?

You can't work it out, it's as developed as it needs to be which is fortunate because the bigger brain that we were implanted with is a resource hog and doesn't leave any extra sugar for the real brain.

Redditors don't seem like the book reading types more like the endless scrolling types

It does need "working out", education and reading is a good way to "exercise" your mind and make mental "gains"

Even just reading classic novels will teach you a lot, not to mention all the nonfiction books that can teach you how to do virtually anything you want

You can also train yourself to compete in games of mental ability like chess or other strategic games

literature is the most mind atrophying pseudo intellectual garbage ever conceived by humanity. You would be more intellectually stimulated by playing a game of online checkers with some 80 IQ shitskin with internet access than reading an ~~*acclaimed*~~ novel or classics. Anybody interested in stories in the form of books, movies, etc. any format of storytelling is braindead npc and does not deserve to live.

If you’re on about John Steinbeck or Great Gatsby sure. But anything by Lovecraft or Howard is great, although if you want novels then Apes of God is a banger. Don’t say that one isn’t stimulating you intellectually you whippersnapper!

        Not really.
Your brain is super activated when you're reading on your non-fiction, using your imagination and analysing what's going on. Plus your verbal iq theoretically improving too. If you read out loud your articulation gets better. And reading makes you more focused.

Storytelling was integral to human evolution. I agree that a lot of literature is obfucated drivel designed to maintain a historical class of those who (pretend) to understand and those who do not, but discrediting the usefulness of the whole thing is insane.

        Anonymous

I agree. I only read at work to pass the time. If I had something more productive to do I would do it

        this is the wrong approach.

the brain is not a monolith, we can't choose which faculties are worth developing because if we want to increase its plasticity and the scope of it connections we have to use it thoroughly and in novel ways, and literature provides very unique opportunities in that regard

it's also precisely because it's something so alien and puzzling to you that you should give it a serious effort

Man you are just hateful and trolling.

There are a lot of great books out there that people just enjoy reading, but my favorite book of course is the Holy Bible.

Christianity encourages and even enabled global literacy through the printing press, as well as giving us the university education system.

If you don't like reading books and would rather make cringe AI art then go for it, but you don't need to create some sort of racist clown logic to justify the fact that you aren't well read or into books.

the secret to brain training is learning that unlike your body, your brain responds more to qualitative than quantitative adaptation

so although your body will show great response to you picking up a few exercises and mastering them, with your brain it's often the process of figuring something out that counts the most

when we get to the advanced stages of a skill what we're usually doing is just collecting, through practice, data points for pattern recognition, adding new layers of information to mechanisms we usually learned in the early stages. but it's when you go from "this is impossible" to "actually i can do this" that the real gains are made, not when you're refining what you already know

theoretically it's possible for a skill to require many cycles of adaptation of this nature, as in: you'd get to a level, practice, hit a ceiling, and then you'd have to master something completely new in order to advance past it, but i'm not aware of anything like that so going for variety is your best bet

you can turn anything, and i mean literally anything, into a way to train the mind provided that you have the right heuristic for it.

if you have internalized the core concepts of lifting you could still find ways to stay fit without a gym or any equipment, because you'd be aware of how your body works and how it adapts, you know what movements to perform, how often, with what intensity, and you could use that to turn any crap in your environment into a tool

in the same spirit, when people think of training the brain they immediately think of activities that are considered cultured, highbrow or logical like math, chess, philosophy, music or language learning, which are good, but if you know how to engage the different areas of your brain you don't necessarily need them. matter of fact, i think finding new, mentally demanding ways to approach everyday bullshit that most people engage with in a mindless manner is a good way to sustain growth over the years, because then you don't need to necessarily add new time-consuming hobbies to your routine
