The marketplace cut alone covers the cost of the one guy who pops in from time to time to update translations, push an event, and add community content, along with years of server time for the official servers. They'd sooner open source the whole thing than actually axe it, it prints free money.

The only time I play is on the IST Party ISTan and even that is getting cancerous with new shitty modes. Still, it is a lot of fun and surprisingly weapons hit better. When the ISTan dies I will TF2 to rest for good.
I was a fricking god at sniper in tf2. I even got an austrailium sniper rifle (on my second mvm tour, I had gotten an austrailium tomislav on my first tour) which I sold, and I even opened a karambit freehand in csgo with that money. Then I got scammed like a moron and quit both games forever.
