Always seemed like an useless overhyped exercise.

Always seemed like an useless overhyped exercise.

The only reason people have so much sentiment towards it, is because we have all kind of old video footage of Old School BBs doing them. It's not Pullovers that made them grow, but a wienertail of chemicals aka steroids.

So stick to your Pullups and Rows for Back, things that actually make sense and work.

This is actually good as a volume finisher after incline bench/dips. You really have to focus on the squeeze though. Added some good definition to mine.

I agree although I also admit that I for sure do not know how to do them properly with adequate weight. But for sure its completely not needed. I would use a nautilus pullover machine though.

The exercise provides a unique movement pattern for the lats, actually. You don't get the same kind of activation from vertical or horizontal pulls - this technically isn't even a "pull", but it stills targets the lats. I've been doing these for years and they've 100% expanded my ribcage and widened my back. You have to go hard though, rep out on decently heavy weight not the pussy weight the guy in op picrel is doing.

      >heavy weight
what was your rep target, iam thinking of replacing seated rows with this

        >it doesn't replace vertical or horizontal pulls
        >I want to use it to replace horizontal pulls

Lmao. Not him, but aim for 8-12 like any other exercise. Take a small pause at the bottom of the rep. It's a nice supplement to back day but it doesn't replace rows.

pullovers feel so fricking good, I'm gonna keep doing them

Some people used to do these because they thought it expands their rib cages. I don't know if there's any truth to it.

They are hard to do with proper form so it must be doing something.

if you don't like pullovers, you've never done them right before, you've never felt the stretch they can give you. tho admittedly it takes some time to figure out and may not work with your shoulder mobility. basically it's a matter of pulling your scapula down and to the front with your serratus

Pretty kino if you have some scapula issues and need to strengthen your serratus. It's a pretty niche prohabilitation movement but normies don't understand that, so nobody does them for what they are designed to do

    >used to do these
    >shoulders never had any issues and could OHP 50kg 3x10 if not till failure
    >literally never had any issues with shoulders in any movement
    >stop doing them
    >OHP drops from 50kg down to fricking 20kg and can barely do 3x8
    >oh you moved your shoulder the same way you used to and never had issues? Guess what, you’re fricked now buddy
Should really get back to doing these things. They were so fun to do and helped with nearly everything from the waist up

I like the Standing Lat Cable Pushdown variation of these, they feel good. I think it counteracts some of the damage of sitting at a desk, and you can do them even when you're really fricking fatigued. Pullovers I always felt like I might tweak my shoulder.

I've been doing them as an accessory to try and improve my shoulder mobility for OHP.
