    Boxing is fun
To be good depends on three genetic factors:
    speed, power, and coordination
Unfortunately I only have the last one. So I was ok at using my long reach to drop precision straights but fast guys ate me up

He was never close to being knocked out. I don't think he got his brain rattled once.

        kinda this
I think the low blow wasn't low and was a solid body punch, but if the ref saw it right and started a 10 count, I have 0 doubt Usyk could have made it then played defense until he got settled again without much worry. It's a cope to say he should have lost because the ref mistook where a punch landed and Usyk acted a bit of a c**t taking 3 minutes rest for a legit shot

I've been thinking of picking it up/joining a local boxing gym since I want to more socially based fitness activities then just lifting in my home gym, main issue is I've seen plenty of boxers end up with brain damage and I'd rather avoid that, anons here have said to just not get hit in the head and spar with the right people but how true is that? Could I just ask the other guy that I'm training mainly for conditioning/health and the social benefits and I'd rather not suffer serious brain damage?

Yeah it sounded stupid in my head too but the only gym in town that has the cool stuff I'd like to do for conditioning (battle ropes, sleds, hammers and tires) is female only and there's nothing for stuff like trail running anywhere nearby

You won't get brain damage from sparring

You absolutely will. I boxed for years and I would get terrible headaches and concussions. There is no doubt you will get brain damage

That's the only way you should be sparring if you're a man

You can definitely ask to "keep it light" at least, you won't really get any trauma unless you're hard sparring. Granted yeah this hinges on your partner not being a tool so use your discretion when pairing up.

You can always just focus more on mitt work as well, and honestly if you're just starting out you probably won't spar immediately anyways, and if you do it'll be kept light. I've seen a couple of guys at my gym too (mainly older, granted) who treat it as more of a social club but no-one really bats an eye. Just give it a shot and see what you think, it's a lot of fun.

While you can spar lightly, it can be done only if your partner also goes lightly. I've had a great coach who wouldn't allow hard sparring but that doesn't prevent some partners from going exceptionally hard.
Long story short, I quit sparring eventually. I got to a point where I know I can fight. My short term memory started being worse and I would at times forget what I was about to say mid sentence. I would get more irritated and would feel more depressed from time to time. I've made a recovery on those things, but no, I'm not getting back to sparring.

Thats the thing, I'd mainly use it as a social club with fitness, I'm a bit of a recluse but recently have had the urge to socialise/try and make friends and figured since I love most forms of exercise boxing would be a good start for people my age (20s)

90% of the kickboxing gyms target audience is wine moms, I'm sure there are legit kickboxer gyms that are good but none near me. It's become normie'd and commercialised to hell in my area at least
