Market starting wage where i live is $50 an hour full time work puts you at 86k before taxes. Add a few years experience and you can make $58 an hour which is over $100k.
I pick my schedule and work very consistently. 12 houe shifts are great imo but thats a personal choice. I have never been called in and if they ask me to work when im not scheduled i just tell them no unless they pay me double time. Some states have better labor laws than others for nurses. I don’t understand why more male nurses don’t get an EMT cert and fire certified and join a department. Nursing she idle is usually 3 12s usually having a weekly optional 4th shift that’s all OT, so they work 3-4 days. Fire has different schedules but an EMT would start at like $40k in most places and shifts can be 24 on 48 off. Meaning they can most likely balance both jobs.

at bare minimum rns are going to start at 30 to 35 an hour, 50 and above in larger cities. NYC FDNY can make 6 figs with overtime (staying in the station and working out) which they all do. Problem is getting hired into the FDNY is a really long process, and they seem to recruit mostly internally from ambulance drivers. The city almost never runs a firefighter civil service test, it's only once every 4 years, same as sanitation
