thats why swimming should be more popular

Most people aren’t Americans who live on a lake like me or have access to a local pool even if they are. Most Europeans don’t have access to pools or water at all. Basically like asking why more people don’t play hockey, because everyone is poor

so is this a lack of money issue, same reason tennis is not popular?

energy is expensive here a pool will cost at least 1€ a day for the pumps running. but quite more and more people get a pool installed.

            https://i.imgur.com/LvtOWNg.jpg

in Europe almost every bigger town has a public pool often Olympic size.
unheated outdoor for summer and heated indoor for the cold season.

Price for heated is bit more expensive (thanks to Ukraine) usually between 2,50 and 3€ for 1,15hours you go there change, shower swim 1 hour shower and change. done.

in summer you go to a outdoor public pool a basic not heated one for swimming costs like 3€ for the whole day. or a unlimited card for 1 year 40€

Newer ones heated and with more attractions like slides jumping towers, wave pools cost more like 5-6€ a day.
sadly some of these face the same problems you have, with migrants stealing fighting and littering everywhere.

              Question for the swim chads:

I'd like to attend an amateur triathlon which is going to happen like a year from now. I've looked up the minimum time requirements and I have to finish the swimming section in 50 minutes. It's 1500 meters. I can swim that much, even with breath strokes but only just barely, so like in 45 minutes. I'd like to have more room to wiggle tho.

So my question is: what should I do to get my time for 1500 meters down to 30 minutes from 45 in a year? Bonus question: what should I do if in general I feel like my breast strokes are faster than my front crawls?

Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world, and Ontario/Michigan/Huron/Erie are in the top 10. You wouldn't be able to swim those unless you live in the Midwest, and Lake Superior is only accessible from the Upper Peninsula, which is the US equivalent of the Scottish Highlands or Lapland. I can personally vouch for Lake Michigan being popular for open-swimming.

No one swims in large lakes because of the waves, they go to small inland lakes without boats

But even then fresh water swimming is like 0.5% of all swimmers, the other 99.5% swims in indoor heated lap swimming pools

    swimming is utterly based.

    >helps develop pns and proprioception

Everything that blacks do is popular thanks to American cultural influence nowadays. Since blacks don't swim, it's not as popular as it could be. I may sound ironic and mocking, which I actually wanna do, but unironically this also could be true which makes it pretty sad at the same time, lol

      only real answer ITT
also access to lap pools in the US is severely limited
i'm in NYC and have no idea where the frick you're supposed to find a pool to swim in unless you join a fricking equinox and pay $400 a month or if you have access to a college gym
rather just be a climbing gym cuckold and pay $100 a month to filter out poors and blacks

30 mins is pretty slow already. just swim twice a week and get coaching or join an adult squad. swimming is all technique. Improving your fitness/strength is useless in the water if your form sucks

      >what should I do if in general I feel like my breast strokes are faster than my front crawls
that probably means your technique sucks. swimming is 90% form so try to work on that. head down, ass up, glide like a fish. try to swim "downhill" to keep a streamlined position. and also get proper swimwear, loose shorts will drag hard.
also if it's open water, train there as well. if you practice in a pool, don't touch the walls

Holy shit homie that's less than a mile in 50 min kek that's nothing

you must learn technique. focus on your stroke and efficiency. tuck your chin, keep your hips up and don't wiggle them side to side. breath alternate sides every three strokes.

I live in a rural mountain place so there's only one shitty pool that's a 20 minutes drive away, but when I lived in a city for uni I swam for a bit and it didn't seem unpopular at all. One time there were 8 other people in my lane (a 25m one) and it was basically impossible to swim properly. A lot of people like it but it's simply less convenient than other forms of cardio unless you live near the sea or a lake

Black folk. They don't swim and things that Black folk don't like don't have millions poured into promoting it. Not complaining, the opposite actually.

Because it costs 6€ for 1h and non-swimmer migrants block all lanes.

It requires a specialized facility and membership generally; meanwhile your average gym is, well, average and abundant. For every pool there's probably two dozen gyms. If it's between a pool and a full gym, a lot of guys would rather have the gym membership. I considered a Y membership but I don't want to fight old people for pool lane reservations.

I fricking hate swimming, it's somehow even more boring than track. Yeah bro just stare at the same 25m of blue tiles going back and forth for an hour. Freediving is nice though.

It attracts homos. Half of my college’s swim team was gay.

Because it's a hassle to make a routine out of it over and above other forms of cardio, so unless you really love it you just filter yourself out of it.

It's too cold in majority of the US to swim year round. The past few years heating pools has been out of the question as it's too expensive.

Oly lifting isn't popular because commies dominated it during the Cold War, big athletic Americans made more money playing baseball or football, and Steve Reeves/Arnold gave bodybuilding more prominence.

Do girls on the swim team gossip about the guys with the biggest dicks?
I have to imagine in high school all the girls are at least peeking looks at their classmates in speedos.

What's a good weekly routine for swimming to complement lifting? And would regular freestyle swimming suffice or should different strokes be practiced? Is it like with jumprope where 30 min of swimming is 1hr of running?

Took a little swim, water was 70F when it was almost 100F outside.
I worked out and did a few chores outside, the pool still felt like ice.

Competitive swimming areas require a large amount of land space, require a unique sports measurement called "depth," are quite expensive both to build and maintain, and cannot serve another purpose other than swimming. Accidents that occur around pools, while less frequent, have a much higher risk for fatality.

While tracks, fields and courts for other sports also require a large amount of land space, they do not require much to adapt that area, can be shared for any number of other activities, less expensive, and host sports that do not require any training to prevent death.

For opposite comparative perspective, sports like "rowing" or "cycling" are similarly "unpopular" because of the environment and overwhelming land space required to perform any training or competition given it requires canals or rivers lasting kilometers in length or literal roads that travel for dozens (or longer) of kilometers and are unlikely to be shared with other vehicles.

It's because most people on IST are actually manlets. Swimming is naturally easier for people who are taller because it helps them cut through the water easier. The more mass you have, the easier and better you can swim. Manlets usually have smaller incomes too so they probably cant afford a swimming pool.
