I truthfully have no idea what is normal grip vs what is close grip, I usually DB bench

there really isnt such thing as a "normal grip". we arent 1:1 carbon copies of each other. its highly individual how you should be gripping the bar. like literally our bone length and structure is different, not everyone can and should use the exact same width.

for me "close grip" is a "normal grip". wide grip absolutely raped my shoulders and i didnt understand it before my physio demonstrated it to me and it took 9 months to heal my rotator cuff and eventually he got me back into doing bench with close grip. but again its not a close grip because its not a tricep exercise. im not training or feeling my triceps even though its "close grip", its the normal width for me. for it to be a tricep exercise for me i would need to take a CLOSE close grip.

but sure you can think of it as arms parallel with elbows = normal, anything wider = wide grip, anything closer = close grip.

How do I find out my perfect grip for close grip bench and normal bench? You seem knowledgeable.

    Frick yes

I work out in my home gym, so i don't have access to cable machines. So my options for doing triceps exercises are a bit limited.

So why in the world did it take me so long to start treating close grip bench as a triceps isolation exercise, which it is! Well I'm just glad it finally happened ^^

Btw, what's the benefit in doing close grip bench on an incline bench??

i don't see the utility of close grip bench. if it hits your triceps, use dips instead.

Enjoy your rotator cuff destruction. It's in fact not called "close-grip", it's just proper technique. The imbecile in the photo has his hands too close and is also producing excess torsion to his elbows, to say nothing of the pointlessness of "incline" positioning.

It blasts my tris to the sky. Love doing 5x5 heavy on the bench, then superset it with heavy cheat curls

I thought you had to put your hands in between the two rougher sides of the bar, on where that little smooth median is.

Nah, close grip is my default bench press. This is mainly because I listened to coach and did them over wide grip. My close grip is intermediate and normal is novice

Hitting triceps is piss easy. Getting a good workout for the pecs is much harder, why the frick would I want to burn out the tris when im focusing on chest.
