alcohol and fitness

I'm curious, how many of you drink and how much does it impact your fitness? If you drink, how often and what's your bodyfat %? do you feel healthy? I personally don't drink or smoke at all and generally I feel really healthy in myself.

Drinking makes my muscles ache and messes with my sleep. So I don't. Haven't smoked for two weeks now and I literally dream of tobacco.

I stopped drinking alot when I decided to start taking lifting seriously. I've noticed that getting drunk even for one day on the weekend puts me back by at least 2 days. I always feel shitty, like I'm out of breath with very low stamina after getting smashed. That being said, I still smoke weed which is quite enjoyable and doesn't have a poor effect on my fitness.

That being said, I still love a good bottle of whisky. If I want to drink, I'll have a glass or two of bourbon but never on training days and I never get smashed anymore except during very rare occasions. I feel bad for people who can't handle their alcohol because its legitimately very enjoyable when taken in moderation. I never had a bad problem with it but you can definitely feel the increase in your quality of life when you stop heavily drinking.

Alcohol is fun for maybe 2 hours at best. After that your metabolism kicks in and sober you out at which point you can choose to keep drinking to try and prolong the fun or sober out and deal with the inevitable depression that comes. I do not understand normals who work 5 days a week just to enjoy 2, maybe 4 if it's Friday and Saturday, hours of fun. NTM alcohol takes a week to leave your system and upwards to 3 months to exit your body altogether.

Used to drink and smoke regularly. Don't pick it up. They provide no benefit to fitness (only negatives) and act as a crutch for "muh social anxiety".

Nope. It's counterproductive and I've drank a lot in life already anyway.

If you lift, you would have to be moronic to drink alcohol as well. It literally negates everything you do whilst in the gym.

I drink usually every weekend and it's fun as hell. I've been 100% sober for 6 months and this is boring and feels like hell.
Im gonna drink next weekend with friends in a big festival

I dont know how to prolong it. After the initial 2 hours the only thing that the alcohol does is makes me drowsy, and I have no more fun with it. Also, pretty much immediately the hangover follows. Nowadays I stick to 1-2 beers, for that first 2 hours fun time.

Alcohol forces your liver to detoxify and process it, at the detriment of the processing of all other major metabolites.
Your fat processing reduces, your protein processing is impaired.
Alcohol is also a nutrient-devoid source of chemical energy as, on detoxification it can enter the krebs cycle, hence why there are so many fat casual-alcoholics, their body doesnt need the fat etc in their diet for energy as much and it goes straight to storage.
Plus beers etc are full of sugar etc.
Alcohol has negative health effects so wide ranging its crazy.
It increases cancer risk and infllammation and so on.

Alcohol cannot be part of a truly healthy lifestyle.

I quit about 10 years ago. I was never an alcoholic, so I didn't experience any of the crazy intense benefits that people get when they drink regularly to excess, but I did notice my sleep improved, my skin got a little better, and it was easier to control my weight without really thinking about it.
I only got IST a couple of years ago.

Ive only been drunk once and it was with the intended purpose of wanting to know what being drunk felt like. I hated it and haven’t even had a sip of alcohol since and beer will. Bleh.

Yeah I don't care, they're better than drinking ounces of literal disinfectant.

I drink 5 days a week, mostly wine, beer if I go out. It definitely limits my gains, but I also lift 4 days and play sports 2-3 days a week, so I feel good and am in good shape, but have a bit of gut, but less than all the powershitters.
I eat a good diet, and drinking gets me laid, so I don't care what all the teatotalers think.

My dad had this problem. Always ate very lean and ran an hour/day so he could have 1500 cal of beer in the evenings. When he quit he moved on to making these frick huge ice cream sundaes every single night, all the fixings like something out of a cartoon. His blood pressure is much better though

if you have self control you can do just about anything in moderation, no need to completely cut something unless you just dont like it.

Yeah, because I go through several bottles of spirits over several days. Thought I almost had a hold of it then I crumbled under a bunch of shit

Only drink the minimum in social situations, do not start resorting to alcohol for stress

Last time I had a drink was during a wedding I attended on February. I found that a barbell works better for my depression than the bottom of a bottle so I stopped drinking alcohol altogether.
I don't miss it at all.

    >Do you feel healthy
I hope it kills me. I'm heavily depressed due to health issues that had gf leaving (not alcohol related).
    >Impact
I always miss my Friday morning training, I do it in the evening before drinking instead. I guess I'm also a bit weaker and certainly fatter (tho I try to eat only protons while drinking). When I started I also missed the Monday thanks to whisky bottles.

I drink about 3 liters of strong zero (9%) every night.
It hasn't affected my health yet, but it's been a few years.
I don't eat much, generally just have 1 or 2 meals a day, so it doesn't affect my gains.
Does slow down my cut tho

I'm on my 3rd week of abstinence and I already feel better.

I wouldn't call myself an alcoholic but I know full well I actually am. This "casual" drinking had to stop - I've been taking fitness seriously the past 9 months and alcohol really affects my recovery and performance. I now train 3 times a week instead of 2 so I don't have time for drinking - I just won't recover in time.
I wish people would invent a non-poisonous alcohol alternative already. Come on.

It destroys my fitness, but due to work (I'm a brewer and the culture of my country is basically drunk 24/7) I can't really avoid drinking.
As a rule, I don't drink on days off or at home, this changes if my coworkers invite me out. We're a small company, only 6 people work at, so I prefer to get along.
Also I want to frick one of my coworkers and she is a massive drunk, so I always jump at the opportunity.
I would be ripped, because I'm very disciplined with my lifting, if I wasn't such a massive drunkard.

Brewer bro, we share the same job.

I always joke that I don't drink beer, and I taste the batch early in the morning, when I am alone.
Which position do you occupy in the brewery?

Maybe it helps that I am the head brewer, and I don't buckle under social pressure. Also I am the only one that can easily move 80lbs kegs and various machinery without diying.

I probably drink 1-2 litres of beer a week on average. I don't really get hangovers unless I overindulge. I can easily fit beer into my macros if I'm bulking or maintaining, with cutting it's harder but still possible, I just drink and eat less. I'm aware this isn't optimal but I like beer.

I simply drink in moderation. I have actually cut down though from what I used to do. Nowadays I usually don't have anything on days when I exercise. So four days out of the week I don't have anything. Other days I have one beer with dinner or maybe wine if my parents come over for dinner. Maybe a digestif or something if I feel like it. I don't really notice any problems caused by the small amount of drinking I do. The dose makes the poison.

I'm at 3+/4atg/5+ and stay between 12 and 18% bf depending on the time of year(cutting below that is for smolbois trying to uncover their limited mass)

You can also be unhealthy without drinking but it's significantly harder

From my personal experience vodka can help you lose weight if you chase it with zero sugar drinks or just water
The problem being its really hard to limit yourself to just a shot or two when you have a whole handle in your freezer

It varies from like 1-5 a week because I go to a lot of live concerts, but never extremely heavy and mostly just less than a handful of beers, if that. The worst thing about it is how it affects my sleep if I drink late.
