Apple watch if you already have the goyPhone to go with it.
Otherwise Garmin is a safe choice, frick Samsung and Fitbit though
I consider it mainly an extension of my phone, fun to get some insight in heart rate data over a longer period of time and get an estimate of burned calories throughout the day but at the end of the day it's just a consumable wearable item.
Fitbit has godawfull software and subscriptions if you want more insight.
Garmin has different price categories so you don't have to spend the 600-1000 $ if you don't need offline mapps for example.
Their base models between 150-300 should cover most of your tracker needs.
I used to have use a fitbit, took a few years off, recently got a garmin.
Fitbit was cool. I have the charge 2 and and early model of the versa, I think. I liked that I could do all my tracking with the watch and one app. That being said, they weren't waterproof (for swimming), battery life was crap, and like it's been mentioned, most advanced data was only available through subscription. The battery crapped out on the versa and the warranty didn't count for some reason, which really pissed me off. I had already given my charge away as a gift and upgraded so after that I didn't get a new one.
I got a garmin because I was looking for something to help track sleep and stress since I started working swing shifts and have been feeling crap about it. Does all the tracking fitbit did and then some. Not only just sleep, but quality of sleep. Estimated oxygen saturation. Stress. Estimated energy/recovery cycles. A lot more in depth info, no subs required. Battery life is 28 days with all the body tracking on. And for my purposes, the gps for innawoods and hunting is dope. Also waterproof to 10atm pressure. If you don't want the GPS, there are cheaper models of garmin out there too. If you want gps for roon/bike tracking, it's cool. However, no calorie tracking in the app, so you'll need a different app or tool for that if you want.
Looking back, fitbit was overpriced. It offered some value as a basic fitness watch, and sleep tracking is cool. They may have changed up some things since I used them, but I doubt it. More geared towards overweight moms and the like.
Garmin is a training watch. The fitness features are based around athlete training. It probably doesn't include calories in the app because it assumes you're training and have your diet figured out, unlike fatbit users. Better features at comparable prices, and insanely advanced features at high prices.
>It probably doesn't include calories in the app because it assumes you're training and have your diet figured out, unlike fatbit users
Garmin has integration with myfitnesspal and if you use mfp to track calories you can see it in garmin connect, and mfp gets your calories burned estimate from garmin activities. Some other calorie counters can integrate with garmin, like cronometer, but its one way integration only - i.e. you can see garmin's calories burned estimate in cronometer but you can't see your calories consumed in garmin connect
I have the Pixel 8, I was gonna get a Pixel Watch 2 since they're nearly half price for open box on eBay, but people swear by Samsung being more accurate or just Xiaomi being dirt cheap and accurate enough. Also the Fitbit app which Google bought sucks compared to the Samsung Health app I used on my S20. How is the Garmin app?
I use myzone, I don't know how accurate they are. Surely I didn't burn 4200 calories deadlifting but maybe I did.
I've been at the top of my gyms leaderboard for 3 years.
I bought a Garmin Instinct 1 for £50, didn't want to spend much as I wasn't sure I'd like a smartwatch/tracker but I liked how it kinda looked like a Casio. Ended up liking it so much I bought a Venu for £73. Good thing about Garmin is that no end of people keep buying the latest models so there are heaps of slightly older ones for cheap, yet still perfectly functional.
yeah the daily charging absolutely sucks dick, and that's already when they're fresh out of the box
Expect to charge them 1,5x per day after a year and twice daily when the battery health gets to around 80%
How are you using the Apple Watch that it charges daily? I have an 8 model and it lasts around 55hrs. I usually hit the 10% warning at about the 48hr mark.
I’m using it for heart rate zone tracking on cycling workouts for 90 minutes a day as well.
Apple watch SE 2020 so YMMV
Full charge before bed: sleep tracking -30%
Two short cycling workouts to and from work: -20%
Gym sesh 1-1,5 hours -25%
This gets me home with around 25% remaining battery life and the b***h takes 1,5-2hours to get to 100% again.
Buy a cheap one and buy a chest strap for accurate measurements for running. Most high end Garmin models are full of fancy features 90% of people don't need. So unless you're a multi sport wilderness guy stick to a cheap model.
I got a fenix 3 HR and it covers all my needs, the new models doesn't really have anything too useful other than solar which is useful if you're spending a couple of weeks in the wild
I'm thinking about getting a Garmin Instinct 2 Solar. Seems reasonably priced and like a gadget that won't make me more of a mindless screen drone. Perhaps less, as I can leave my phone at home when going outdoors.
I'm using Garmin Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar and I love it. it absolutely blows my mind that I can use a GPS with navigable maps in color with navigation, points of interest etc. on a fricking watch or that it can detect that I just did 5 chinups, while still lasting weeks on a single charge
Yeah, its awesome, the charge is just insane.
And the gps is better than my handheld garmin.
And the tracking accuracy for fitness is great along with the programs and guides.
>gps is better than my handheld garmin
i got fenix 6x pro watch and cycling computer edge 530, there is virtually no difference in gps signal for me wathsoever >you got maps and navigation on the watch
overall selling point for me >can be used in every sport
yes, but heartbeat sensor isnt that precise, its decent at best, if you want to have a good way of tracking your heartbeat during running or cycling, get a heartstrap, literally any will do with bluetooth, i got the basic one from garmin and its a difference day / night in heartbeat sensor
i also can recomend garming watch if you want overall sport watch, the navigation on it is very good, but during cycling i catched myself almost driving off the road while looking at the watch, that's why i got cycling computer and the issue is gone, when you look for a route on a watch during a drive, you can literally hit something 🙂
overall garmin watches are pretty fricking great tool
Fenix 6 pro solar is top notch. Just get it on sale. Battery life is great, activities are great, and the GPS is super accurate. I use it primarily for fitness tracking and running. But recently just did a huge motorcycle trip across North Africa and was able to upload the route to my watch so I could navigate without a dedicated GPS/phone. Add to that if you're really into the hiking scene I was able to pair it with the InReach device so I didn't even need the inReach on my person.
Got Garmin Fenix 7x and been very happy with it.
Its overkill but if you want top of the line watch that endures and is still good for selling off then then get a garmin.
I have a Garmin Forerunner 255s on the way.
For me it seems to strike a good balance as an overall smartwatch and a fitness tracker, that looks sturdy enough and has a battery that can last for a week or two. The always-on display is a plus for me to use it as a daily driver as opposed to gesture-bound AMOLED displays which seems like a pain in the ass for me. It is also supposedly decent enough at tracking lap-swimming.
For ~$40 you can get a Fitvii. It seems to do everything pretty well and I'm not willing to spend a lot on something that small and more limited in function than my phone that's going to get thrown out when the battery no longer holds a charge or it's no longer compatible with my phone or a million other things that cause technology to become useless.
They have too much unnecessary features. I don't need it to know and track my heart rate all day, especially when it's Apple or Google handling the data.
check out the Polar V2 or V3 if you are serious about training more on the aerobic side. They have the best supporting software that you only get if you have their watch. Great sensors and battery life. Garmin is decent as well if you are looking for more 'features'
can apple watch even track calories of lifting? I dont think its feasible, can it understand the pressure I'm putting my muscles in? the exact exercise I'm performing, especially if its rotating arms for example? or legs? etc
I always think of it as 250 calories and move on with my life
Apple watch if you already have the goyPhone to go with it.

What makes you pick Garmin over FitBit?
In the market for a tracker only mind you, still want other anons input.
Fitbit has godawfull software and subscriptions if you want more insight.

Garmins has the best gps system out of all watches

watch The Quantified Scientist reviews on YT
they all suck at HR tracking except for the Apple Watch
Which also sucks.

oura ring 3 for sleep
fitbit sense 2 for steps
polar h10 for workout heart rate
apple watch is pretty sick for sleep and heart rate, but you need to charge it daily lol

I had 5x for many years and switching to 7x pro (which is identical to 7x) was massive step forward. Worth it for the trails
Garmin Instinct Solar lasts over five days before charging. Easy choice.
I have an instinct 2 non-solar and it gets easily 2 weeks before needing to charge, including tracking daily runs and/or bike rides
I have a Garmin Forerunner 255s on the way.

How are Polar watches? Thinking of getting the Polar Vantage V for Black Friday

Mi band 4 master race

I always think of it as 250 calories and move on with my life
Not really, but it's consistent which is all that matters.
I get free Garmins from a guy who works there and never use them.
Garmin Forerunner 45, disregard everyone else. This is my thread.
