I got braces at 21 and no girl I met or knew seemed any less interested in me. Mind you, I was fairly attractive*.
*i am now fat and bald and long for those days
doesnt really matter, why not invisalign though?
Invisalign is the way to go. Takes a little longer, but it was the same price for me. Apparently, it’s a fashionable thing for wealthy people to get Invisalign now. My sister-in-law got them even though she didn’t really need them because “everyone is doing it.” Ostensibly, it was to correct some minor flaw that only she could notice.
Even if OP has to get braces, it’ll suck for a few years but it helps long term. Good teeth are a pretty reliable status symbol in America.
Then you get to wear the Invisalign trays every night for the rest of your life and if you don't they start going back to their original state immediately and oh the trays are $400!
proof on your baseless claims?
>why not invisalign though
Isn't covered by insurance.
>pretty reliable status symbol in America
I live in Europe.
Invisalign isn't as effective as braces, so you're better off going the traditional route anyway. Traditional braces are also easier because they don't require nearly as much patient compliance.
>Be honest, will this kill my chance at dating girls? I am still in college.
no it wont but imagine my fricking situation: I will get braces at fricking 34... gonna stuck with that shit until im 36. fricking grim.
only works with minor flaws, takes much longer, much more expensive.
>Good teeth are a pretty reliable status symbol in America.
everywhere. I had bad teeth since forever. cucked me out of many pussy.
I hate my life.
to straighten teeth or get jaw surgery?
only teeth, I hope I dont need jaw surgery. I think I wont. I got overbite and my jaw is a lil fricked. we will see.
My cousin is 28 with new braces. I think women can pull it off though. For men it’s another thing
You won't eat for 1 to 2 weeks, only liquids
You will get scars and have phantom pain years after.
Brushing your teeth is annoying, shit will stick on your braces like ants to sugar.
>You won't eat for 1 to 2 weeks, only liquids
That's not true. Your teeth and gums will be more sensitive for sure and hurt for about a week after every adjustment at the orthodontist, but not to the point that you need to be on an all-liquid diet.
I had bracers from 16 to 19. Girls don’t care except when their tongue get stuck in your bracers. Happens often sadly.
I'm an orthodontic assistant and I'm studying to become an orthodontist. Our patients are 50% children and 50% adults. We have patients as old as 70 getting braces. There's no shame in it.
A lot of people find guys with braces weirdly attractive, including me. The quirky look of braces contrasting with masculine features is really cute.
What did he mean by this?
Its worth every penny and every second of discomfort
This , the discomfort is fricking hell when it come to teeth , omg....I just remembered when I had my braces.
firs of all, who gives a frick? you should be doing what's best for you anyways.
I got them while in my last year of uni, I was 27, and I should be done early next year(29).
>will this kill my chance at dating girls? I am still in college.
really hard to say. After getting it, I was able to make out with a french Erasmus students. Most girls didn't care because apparently all women had braces at a young age. Quite a lot of people told me I looked good with braces and I'm very mid 6~7/10.
I got them so I could later on get 2 implants and stop being afraid of smiling. Girls always complemented my smile, but I rarely smiled because I was afraid someone would see the empty spot. Since I've finished Uni I haven't been with girls, because I'm not around any so I can't really tell, but i'd say they don't care if they like you honestly.
How much are implants? My teeth are in a fairly sorry state and I have no delusions about keeping all of them. I'd rather not spend $3k on a root canal and crown like my last bad tooth.
it's 900€ a piece here in Portugal. In the US I've heard it way, way more expensive.
Guys I don't know exactly what braces do, all I know is I have gaps between my teeth and when I asked would braces help my dentist said no. I was 17 then and a pussy but now I am 22 and a schizo, Is it worth it?
Braces move your teeth by using an archwire to apply pressure over time. Along with elastics (little rubber bands that you will hook onto your brackets), they will fix crossbites, overcrowding, and a lot of other issues. Some people get braces for cosmetic reasons and others for medical reasons.
You can get a consultation with an orthodontist. They will be able to tell you what issues they'll fix, the cost, estimated treatment time, etc.
Thanks anons, I will check it out. Kind of annoyed this wasn't decided for me when I was a young teen. I guess i'll just have to go Bane mode.
>Kind of annoyed this wasn't decided for me when I was a young teen
I mean, they can be real expensive. That's the reason I didn't get it until 30s, no money.
Actually you made the smart decision. The medical industry will attempt to find anyway to process and medicalize you. I was offered braces for a gap and crooked choppers and refused. I have no issues today, gap closes and any crooked teeth worked themselves into a decently corrective alignment over time.
A more recent story: thought I had an abscess in 2021. Turned out I have receded gums and they recommended gum grafts, which are highly invasive. Got a second opinion last month and the dentist said “yeah you made the right call. We don’t recommend grafts until 5mm recession. You have less than 1mm”. Trust your gut, advocate for yourself and get second/third opinions. good luck anon.
Look up dental insurances that cover braces. I didn't do that and had to pay 100% - which was about $7,000. I think Delta covers 50%, but I could be wrong.
Be wary many orthodontists are incredibly aggressive. They will tell you that you need to spend 12k today or your head will rot completely. Highly recommend getting at least two opinions before agreeing to major dental work.
Got braces at 25, and had them for 2 years. Chicks werent a problem, especially if you play the "i got money for them now" line.
Yeah they suck, but own em.
My wife had them after we had been dating a couple of years (got them at 19), we're the same age but on several occasions we had people refuse to believe she was 19 and had someone essentially say it's not right to be dating a minor (they guessed her age as 13 or 14). She was 5'6, 107lbs at the time so the braces didn't help.
oh also making out with her was terrible for like two years until they came off
My gf has them and they're getting taken off in a couple months and i'm secretly devastated as its one of my fetishes.
I visited the dentist a couple months ago, and they actually recommended that I keep the braces on for the rest of my life.
I was really surprised cuz I naturally thought that it was a done deal after like at least 10 years of alignment, but they told me it's better to keep it on, because then it could quickly go back to being crooked, and then you'd have to pay an expensive fee to reinstall it.
Was she right? I mean i'm definitely used to it now cuz i had it for almost a decade and my teeth look straight now, but i kind of wanted to remove it sooner or later, and she made me skeptical now.
i have picrel at the back. i think most people switch to these after wearing normal visible braces for a year or two, but im not sure
>I visited the dentist a couple months ago, and they actually recommended that I keep the braces on for the rest of my life.
Are you talking about the retainer? Because yes that's pretty common.
is that what it's called? i was wondering, i just kept thinking of it as "smaller braces behind the teeth"
Yep, fixed/permanent retainers. Sometimes you can get away with those you just sleep with/wear throughout the day. Depends on the person/their teeth
I haven't worn my retainer in like 5 years. Nothing changed
same but over 10 years since I finished my braces and I check every few months and my retainers fit just fine
bahahahaha holy shit see another dentist I am cackling braces for life goy hahaha good one oh dentist office of dr.goldsmilestein huh
Are you cute/young looking? Some girls will love it.
No. I mean, if you sucked before, you're gonna suck the same. If you were hot before, you are now hot + cute. I had them at 28-29. The worst thing it was the constant pain and mouth sores that didn't let me speak and smile, because it hurt to move my lips.
Be confident about your shit, and girls will feel it.
It never looks ok its a sympathy thing when I see it on a woman like oh I feel bad for her she needs hugs and eventually me cumming on the braces
With a dude it’s just lol what a moron
All other responses are lies
Even if a woman posted on here (huge doubt) she will say it’s ok possibly but her actions in reality will be different
I did at 26
100% worth it. My parents did not get any braces like they got my brother because they said I was too ugly anyway
that's sad man
for me:
>geriatric dentist told my parents it's not worth it when I was young
>said that because he knew we were poor out of some misguided kindness
>had to pay for it myself as an adult 10 years later instead
Did it at 28, done now
Worth it even if you feel like anheroing every now and then, turns out most people don't care or even notice, even when I got them off it took weeks for people that knew to realise I didn't have them
also I did manage to go on a date once with them, but she didn't know until we met and although she never brought it up it probably played some part in us not meeting up again
get Invisalign instead
I've had to wear braces for the last 4 1/2 years because I was born with a severe underbite and insanely fricked up jaws and teeth. My upper jaw was underdeveloped. It was super narrow like a bottle nosed dolphin or sperm whale and deeply recessed into my face. And so it was kind of like having a small child's upper jaw within a fully grown man's skull. All of the crowding caused my teeth to point in all sorts of directions. I can't believe that braces actually managed to straighten them all out. It's insane to look at my before and after pics and molds. And to make matters worse, my lower jaw was way too big and jutted out from my face like an orc. And both of my jaws were crooked too and misaligned with my face. And so I could barely eat. Only my last 2 molars met, and only halfway. That's where I had to do all of my chewing. If my jaws moved just a couple more millimeters, then my teeth wouldn't make contact at all and my upper teeth would plunge into the back of my gums with every bite - which sometimes happened if I moved my jaws while chewing. It was a nightmare, and totally out of the blue since nobody else in my entire extended family even needed braces, let alone had any sort of jaw issues. Because my jaws were so fricked up, I had to get double jaw surgery earlier this year - which was a fricking nightmare. My jaws had to be sawed into several different pieces and then reassembled using metal plates and screws. But first my teeth had to be perfectly straight because the oral surgeons use your teeth as a guide when resetting your jaws. You also need the braces for jaw surgery because they attach metal hooks to them to keep your jaws wired shut for 6 weeks post-op + several additional months of much weaker rubber bands to finish off the jaw realignment - which I'm still wearing right now. I'm supposed to finally get them off in the next couple of months, but we'll see. They keep moving my removal estimate farther and farther out.

I can't wait to get these motherfrickers out of me. I haven't been able to properly floss my teeth in 4 1/2 years - which is fricking disgusting. Brushing them properly is nearly impossible too. I keep getting horrible looking black and yellow stain buildups around the wires and brackets because my electric toothbrush isn't reaching them, even though I brush twice a day. I'm also sick of getting food stuck in my braces every day, not being able to talk right, the pain and sensitivity that I have to deal with for a week every month when I get them adjusted, my inner cheeks getting rubbed raw and sometimes torn up if they don't do a good job of bending the wires, having to worry about the small rubber circles coming off of the brackets and swallowing them, which has happened to me several times, because that can reset your progress if you don't notice it and fix it ASAP, having to worry about your brackets popping off, which happened to me once during the middle of the Covid lockdowns, and looking lame and dorky because braces only look cute on women. I can't fricking wait to finally be free from them. But knowing that I'll have to wear a retainer at night for the rest of my life to prevent relapse is also super annoying. Frick you God for making such imperfect and screwed up creatures like me.
Oh, and by the way, I felt much more like General Grievous than Bane. But that's because I have so much metal in my face due to my surgery.
>I keep getting horrible looking black and yellow stain buildups around the wires and brackets because my electric toothbrush isn't reaching them
get large interdental toothbrushes, so large that they will fill the gap between the wire and your teeth, but not too large like a regular toothbrush so you can actually fit them there. works like a charm for me. also go to a dental hygienist every couple of months - very effective at removing stains (i'm a euro so may not apply to you if you're poor+american)
What about underbite surgery?
Front teeth haven't touched since I was 12, but nobody seems to notice, or they say it's not too bad.
I wrote about my process of correcting my severe underbite with double jaw surgery. If you have any questions, let me know. But you should go see an oral surgeon and see what they think. There might be less extreme treatment options that I'm not aware of if you're right about your underbite not being that bad.
Been told surgery is the only thing that'll work (likely just top jaw surgery), plus braces on the lower jaw which were never done as a teenager due to being told to wait and see.
I think the not being that bad thing is a chicken/egg situation because I never give an open smile because I'm insecure about it.
Upper jaw surgery is much safer than lower jaw surgery with much less complications like permanent numbness (I'm currently going through that right now) according to my oral surgeon. But don't let that fool you. Upper jaw surgery is still super brutal as well. And you're probably going to need braces on your upper teeth as well because they use your braces to attach small metal hooks for keeping your jaws wired shut after surgery. I still suggest going to an oral surgeon to learn more.
>you're probably going to need braces on your upper teeth as well because they use your braces to attach small metal hooks for keeping your jaws wired shut after surgery
Meh, I'll be fine with that. Top teeth aren't super perfect, especially since they pulled a set of pre-molars due to overcrowding.
Braces ruined my jawline and gave me permanent sensitivity. You're also committing to wearing a retainer for life. Ended up quitting and wasted over £4k
Unless your teeth are genuinely ultra fricked up, you might want to think twice about it
>retainer for life
this is why im not getting braces despite having a front tooth crooked
still getting pussy
you will be celibate for 2 years but you post here so that was 80% the chance anyway
Make sure to floss, gum recession sucks. Use a water flosser if you're lazy.
Had braces like picrel when I was 19, my teeth were extremely crooked and within 11 months they took the braces off, now I have a perfect smile, the only discomfort was when they tightened down the braces about every 3 months which only lasted for 48 hours, other than that it was completely fine and I didn't have any problems with hanging out with girls.
Just remember to wear your retainer at night once they take the braces off.
I had adult braces and it turned out okay, I think I was the only one who cared. Everyone else gets used to them. It may be different for dudes but oh well. just adjustmax like I did and get them taken off quickly and you shouldn't have any problems
>may be different for dudes
it is. women are cute with it. men look like a morons with braces.
>adjustmax like I did and get them taken off quickly
literally not how it works you fricking moron. you wear them until the job is done unless your israelite dentist wanna make some extra and start to frick with your teeth
Adult braces are pretty cringey but whatever, either do it now or later. If your jacked teeth are keeping you down then get them otherwise get a girl then get them.
Why it's so fricking expensive to install brackets?
Yes. I hate them. Pic of me btw
dude I dunno if it's just the braces but you look gay as frick
22, have them, will have them until im 23, it sucks but honestly most people dont notice. I dont have a gf tho, girls notice and immediately get turned off.
I had braces for 2 years, completely fixed my teeth. Stopped wearing my retainer then ruined them again. This is when I was already in my 20s too. There is not enough cope in the world for me at this point
