Most normal kids aged 18 to 22 do theses types of things. I did, except the steroids and I had a normal job, but I went to strip clubs from time to time so the vibe is there.

It's because he does like average 10 sets for a muscle except that he takes each set hard as frick going to failure then doing partials until he can barely move. He's slowly learning that when you train this hard, you need way less to grow
HIT is just common sense. Maybe not the one set every 14 day bullshit like late-stage mentzer but just doing an exercise until it's obviously not productive to do it anymore, then doing partials or isolations really drive it home is what every big guy does. Nobody actually does that 13 sets of 2 with 50% 1RM bullshit you read online. He's some dipshit kid so he doesn't know physiology but his intuition is going to lead him to the right place.
So am I right to cap my sets off with reps until failure then more reps at a lower weight, then partials until I can't do any more? I've also been treating every other set like a warm up, so I'll do one set to feel the weight out, one set to reach failure for the first time, and then the final set is what I described above. I'm new to bodybuilding but this feels pretty good, I'm still tinkering around with my training so any advice is nice

This, he does some 4-day split but repeats it on an infinite loop with no rest days, something like:
chest - legs - shoulder / back - arms / some other part of the back - repeat
