The proper way is blood choke with fingers on one side and thumb on the other. Actually not much force is required. You don't want much pressure on her windpipe other than that she feels you're controlling her. She should be able to breathe normally the entire time.

Just push on the sides of the neck instead of the front. This shuts down the carotid arteries. Front choke takes 2-3 min (it just inhibits air flow to the lungs, but the blood still circulates to the brain) whereas proper choking can get someone unconcious in 10-15 seconds.
