Especially if you're doing 3x5 of "real" squats several times a week?

I do 4 x 20 bodyweight squats as part of my warm up for barbell squats.
I find that high rep squats in general are great whether you use weight or not.
>cardio gains
>strengthens knee tendons
>crazy hypertrophy
Literally never
either you have mike tyson genetics or you are a literal twig to see any gains at all let alone 'crazy hypetrophy' from this

This.
Hypertrophy follows strength, and "pump work" just produces sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, at best.

sarco vs myofib hypertrophy is a meme lmao, doing super high rep bodyweight squats produces 0 hypertrophy at all due to the insufficient load (unless you're completely untrained but even then it will stop after a month at most)
To be clear I'm including weighted back squats when I talk about high rep squats. For OP, I still think high rep bw squats are worth it for the first two points.
Upside down yeah.
Good for mobility, cardio, stretching and warming up your muscles and tendons, endurance.
3x5 is insanely low volume, you better be doing that three times a week to get anywhere
Just switch to 4x12 squats. 3x5 squats is dumb at least do 5x5 quads like volume.
bw squats with a little jump back between reps are brutal
Yes I finish all my squat sessions with a widowmaker of 1x20@55% I do doggcrapp.
I’ll report back in may. My son just got the OK to workout after his ACL surgery a few weeks ago. His quad has atrophied considerably. I just told him that for the entire month of April I will do 3x whatever body weight squat he does each day. He’s going to try and murder me. It should be fun.
Pic not related.
hope you survive anon,
also gl to your son's recovery
Thanks x 2. His PT said this was the best ACL surgery he’s ever seen.
If any of you need joint surgery the Carroll Clinic in Dallas is stellar. After this experience I would never go anywhere else. Dr. Scovell specifically in this case. He has the hand of the Lord guiding him. We had full mobility after 2.5 weeks.
Ah, that's great. Hope it keeps going well for both of you
Don't let the competitiveness get him hurt
Not for size or strength. High rep bodyweight exercises are great for endurance though. Mike Tyson would do a frickton of them, because it would help his legs not get tired while fighting.
