My gated community gym doesn’t have a squat rack or barbells. When I do weighted lunges or BSS, I think my left leg is longer because it just doesn’t have the same mobility as my right one so the ROM is all fucked and don’t feel it being worked at all.
Are heavy leg extensions and leg curls good enough substitute.
No
>When I do weighted lunges or BSS, I think my left leg is longer because it just doesn’t have the same mobility as my right one so the ROM is all fucked and don’t feel it being worked at all.
What the fuck are you talking about
I’m saying that when I do lunges or split squats in my left leg, the range of motion is bad compared to my right which I do go all the way down. It happens even if unweighted.
A left-right imbalance can have many different causes. You need to find out which muscle is the culprit that's holding tension on one side, because it pulls all the other muscles towards it and limits your body mechanics on that side.
Certain yoga poses such as Warrior 1 can help isolate & stretch that one muscle that's not doing its job. For me it was the right oblique, I could twist to the left but not to the right, and grounding through my feet in helped me form new neurological adaptations so I can figure out how to sequentially activate my muscles so I can finally twist to the right a little more
No
Leg press is the only real machine substitue for squats.
Why do they have leg extensions but no leg press?
don't mind me, just here to observe the digits
LEg press is a shit substitute for squats. It's closer to deadlift form. Wasted digits
>It's closer to deadlift form
what in the actual fuck are you talking about
it's closer to a trap bar deadlift but he is still wrong
Waste of a get. Fuck the leg press. And no, Leg extensions aren't enough. They're like that extra 10% that you get after squatting. Be it a front squat, a back squat, a BSS, a lunge, a hack squat, you need more. Pick 2 of those and do them heavy mid to high rep and high intensity WITH leg extensions and then watch your legs blow up.
which squats hit quads and hamstrings more than anything?
Do something else entirely for hamstrings. But some lunge variations I guess or a deep squat can kinda hit the hamstrings if you need an answer.
Single-leg deadlift
Sure. But he asked which squat is best for hammies.
What about hamstring curls?
So leg press sucks? I’ll do sissy squats then
waste of digits
They're excellent for the vastus medialis but aren't great for the other muscles. The opposite of squats
You probably have some muscular imbalance. Stretch
Your legs will be totally unacceptable and will never get into a prestigious leg school.
how do people come up with these shit questions. If you mobility is tight on your left leg IMPROVE IT.
Leg extensions are great, especially with a hold at the top. However you need a squatting motion, or at least a lunging motion.
Also do single leg rdl's with dumbbells.
Please do hamstring curls too.
If your gym doesn't even have dumbbells..... at least try a smith machine.
