Are Stationary Bikes real cardio?

MMA / BJJ practitioner here. I want to lose weight and up my stamina. I cannot get myself to go out for a run or sprints in my bugman-ridden city no matter how many times I think it over.

Are stationary bikes real cardio or do I have to go for runs at 4AM?

No, as your body makes contact with the device the thermodynamics of your body are transported to a different plane of existence. Any calorie spent is thrown into the abyss of the beyond, as your earthly body remains unchanged.

If you go hard, yes, you should be soaking wet at the end of your session

Of course cycling is real cardio. In fact elite cyclists have some of the highest recorded VO2 Max levels of any athlete. The question is how well does it translate to fitness in MMA? Perhaps something like an assault bike is better because it is providing a more full-body exercise which is also recruiting upper body muscles in movements similar to a fighter's. You might also consider skipping rope.

      Totally irrelevant.

I was gunna get a stationary bike, but while I was deciding what to get I made a gay little 10" aerobic step for low impact cardio in the interim. Now I do an hour stepping on that and hold some dumbbells to up the resistance, this mfing step is kicking my ass lmao.

You can get stationary bikes from asiaticmazon for 150 bucks.
    Cadence monitors cost 15 bucks.
Peloton offers 1month free trials of their classes:
    >Create new accounts each month.
Heart rate monitors are nice to stay in Zone 2 for endurance but not needed.

Shit's cash. I get the entire Peloton experience for dirt cheap.

Won't do anything to enhance capillaries in your arms or shoulders, which are quite important for striking
Air bike or ski erg (or diy ski erg aka resistance bands on an overhead bar) would be better. Maybe rowing?
This is why skipping rope > jogging as well btw, use a weighted rope, I had a cheap leatherbound rope with little weights in the handle, liked it a lot

You can train as shut-in neet on stationary bike then come outside and break world records.

I like to superset the stationary bike with burpees and the ERG. ATM I'm doing 3 mins ERG, 5 burpees then 1 mins on the bike. Rinse and repeat.

An airdyne is a better option, but you should stop being an butthole and just run

I literally have this bike, and yes, of course it is real cardio.

That said, just like everything else, it shouldn't be the only cardio you do. Running, rowing, martial arts, swimming, etc. are all beneficial, and all work different muscles, and give you capillarization in different areas.

Try and mix it up, but I enjoy my stationary bike. It works the same rain or shine, ez to track my heart rate as I go and adjust difficultly. So, go for it if you have the means.

Zwift and a proper turbo trainer are the best way to indoor cycle.

I haven't read the thread but frick a stationary bike and frick everything anyone else said to you because what i'm going to say is all you need.

Endurance is sport-specific. You want motor patterns that are, as much as possible, akin to the ones you'll be doing in your sport. If you are trying to throw down a few hundred dollars on home cardio equipment and want it to help your BJJ game, then you need to think about one thing:

    Rowing machine.
