A little bit on its own. Most of what it does is promote staying active.
It’s really easy for people to just walk around, the more of it they do, the more interest they have in trying to become fit or stay fit.

It burns 2/3 of your bodyweight in pounds in calories for every mile walked. So if you weigh 240 then every mile walked or ran burns around 160 calories. Walk 3 miles a day and that's around an extra 500 calories burned every day

I put in 100kg person, 30 minutes of walking on level ground at 2.5mph (standard waking pace). Comes out to 3METS, or 150 calories. Note that this is triple the BMR, and the BMR is already included. This means walking at that weight would burn a mere 200 calories an hour. Highly inefficient, you're better off eating less.

      A lot

MET ratong isn't directly tied to weight loss. It's a good measure of relative intensity for activity but not long term health or weight loss.

it's up to the walker weight, walking speed, duration but it roughly 150kcal to 300kcal an hour, and a kg of fat worth 7,500 kcal

Really depends on what else they're doing. For a person that sits at a computer 18 hours a day and only moves to get delivery from the door? Walking nonstop even 15 minutes a day would do a lot for them. For a person who works retail and spends 8 hour shifts standing and moving around a store? Walking extra on top of that won't do much.

    Walking doesn't help one bit.
Losing fat is ALL diet, because exercise makes you hungry.
Stop eating shit. Here's a chart:
Are you fat? then you're eating shit.
    It's that simple.

If you walk 20km a day then you have less time to eat, you also don't snack as much as a person stuck at home

A lot, actually. Walking is low intensity, and doesn’t increase your appetite much compared to the calorie burn.

    A little to a lot
To make a long post shorter, where cardio/walking/general activity increases are most important to calories is when you're already lean or can't reduce calories in your diet more without being deficient in something. Fat people need to do little more than manage their diet to lose weight. Weight lifters, athletes, and people seeking to affect a certain body composition usually need more of strategy involving activity and carb restriction.

Walking is based. If you keep your HR below 135 and sustain the walk for a long time you can burn a shit ton of calories and a good part of them will be fat. You can only sustain the weight loss for a while, then you will hit a plateau and you will need to walk inclined threadmill or roon. Its a good manteinance exercise anyway

it wont just burn calories, it will also make you feel better which is nice when dieting. If you feel healthier, you're less likely to mess up the diet.

It’s fantastic man. You burn about 100 calories per mile, more if there’s a lot of hills. I can usually walk 3-4 miles in an hour, so it’s very easy for me to burn and additional 300-400 calories before bed.
Plus, going on night walks is the shit, frickin love the peacefulness of just walking around town at night, listening to a podcasts.

This. If you are tying to lose weight you can just walk for an hour and get your deficit there. Easier to eat at maintenance.

Walking is the best addition to lifting on a cut. It doesn’t draw from your regeneration capacity, it doesn’t fatigue a lot, it helps you think, you can be in nature, it burns decent calories especially if you are heavier.

I walk 6.3km per hour and burn a little shy of 500kcal doing so. (70kg, 185cm)
The calculation I use has seen me through 3 cuts and is accurate.

Walking is just about the most based steady state cardio you can do, as it also lets you think about things, get fresh air, go through an audiobook, run errands, discover your neighbourhood and others nearby.

You can walk for 2 to 4 hours every evening without needing to take rest days from it, and it makes cuts trivial as long as you can get your eating in check too.

The people who say it's not worth all have that telltale double-digit IQ duck stance where their feet point outward as they walk. You don't have to listen to these "people".
