Women are more attracted to a man when he has a mate. They imagine themselves in the position of your gf, because if she is with you, then that means you have something they also want too.
Women trust/desire men who are trusted/desired by other women. It is a very clever evolutionary mechanic. Why go through the effort of vetting every man, when your fellow women have already vetted them for you?
