I just found out about these. Yea, I'm new to lifting. Less than a year. I can do 185 lbs for reps, 5x5, and have done 2pl8 for my 1RM.
Isn't this cheating? It says the shirts can be so restrictive it's hard to get the bar down to the chest!? How is that different than having a spotter push up under the arms? Add this in with the super arched back, Is anything real?

At least now I know what the RAW competitions mean, they don't allow any equipment other than a belt.

weird I just found out about them yesterday when I was looking at women's weightlifting world records.
>Women
I agree, but this wasn't driven by women. Apparently they've been around since like the 70s. This is the part that really pissed me off:
>Super heavy weight Ryan Kennelly, benched 1070 pounds (476.3 kg) on 4/13/08 at the APA WestCoast Iron Wars held in Kennewick, Washington using a bench shirt. It is said that his “raw” ma was less than 700 pounds.
This guy went up almost 400 lbs wearing this shirt! That's an assisted lift, what the frick. How can this "record" be allowed!? I always thought the super heavy weights were doing gear or shit, but this too? What is the record for a guy not on gear, no assists?
it's just weird boomer shit that nobody under the age of like 50 cares about or does
>What is the record for a guy not on gear, no assists?
Julius Maddox has the raw bench world record of 770 pounds
>How can this "record" be allowed!?
It's tracked seperately
>not on gear
Doesn't smash davis have the tested raw record but then he popped
Looks like 705 by James Henderson, then second on the list is a paralympian. For tested raw lifters.
I can vouch for James Henderson. He was very religious and had a moral objection to any kind of cheating, including extreme arching.
>women
they are what they are
if they want to get big and ugly and win plastic trophies for the same shit men do I don't care
ngmi if you use these
They originally started making bench shirts to reduce injuries, but people realised they could bench more in them so it became its own thing.
Raw powerlifting has only become popular in the last 10 or so years,
Full equipped bench press record is like over 600kg when the strongman deadlift record is 500. The fact that anyone can take this shit seriously is beyond me
Strongman deadlift records are done in equipment too
It's just the deadlift suits are trash in comparison to bench shirts and squat suits
You could create a deadlift suit which helped alot more. But you wouldn't be able to grab the bar lol.
You wouldn't really because the deadlift suits work by using the kinetic energy of you bending over to grab the bar
Some people just want to win. If the rules didn't say you can't use a forklift or have your buddies help you lift the bar they'd do that. You need to watch Louie Simmons videos to understand the mentality of equipped lifters, and also to watch out for them. Dudes like Matt Wennings and JM Blackley masquerade as strength coaches and powerlifting experts when in reality they're equipped gays with advice specific for that clown show.
Wait until you actually see a raw competition.
>but they fixed it
Not really they just need to touch higher on the chest now.
That's nothing.
This is what I mean. Like how can they allow the giant arch like that? When I lift I try to do proper form, I admit sometimes towards the end of a lift I'm not getting bar down all the way.
It's just, I thought this numbers I read about were real, but it looks like the "real" number is in the 700 lb range for bench. I'm very new still to lifing and it's just disappointing to find out about these kinds of assists. It's like when I was younger and found out about steroids. I used to think the wrestlers I saw were guys who were that big and trained very hard, then I found out they were all taking drugs.
Are you underage or one of those trannies with a diaper fetish?
According to IPF, that IS proper form. You see better range of motion in equipped lifting.
?t=28
Also, a big appeal for equipped lifting is that it deloads sensitive parts of the lift, such as approaching the bottom portion of a bench press where you're at most risk of a pec tear. It's why it's always older guys using the gear and young guys being rawtards. The older guys know they will get hurt eventually and take steps to dodge that without just giving up the lift entirely. I agree with Steve Shaw (bodybuilding focused guy) on this.
I'm not saying you need it but it's still strong guys moving weight. You're not stronger than these people you're just being an arbitrary form nazi.
>arbitrary form nazi
The article literally says that the shirts can give up to 40% more lift assit. That the one guy lifted 400 more lbs!?! with the shirt than without. That's not just form.
I like how you talk like 700 pound bench is low when you almost definitely can't even bench 1 plate
Jfc if you're not underage you are literally moronic
I didn't say 700 is low, learn some reading comprehension. But is 700 lower than 1200? Can you into math? I can't do 700, but I can't run like usan bolt either, or hit a home run like a pro. I can still say, WTF? when finding out Usan is doping or McGwire was roiding?
And then get the "Hur Dur can you hit a HR? Can you run sub 4min mile? NO? Then STF"
Equipped lifting is its own beast. Yes, you lift a LOT more, but you have to completely change ALL technique to do so, a raw bench and a shirted bench are worlds apart, you aren't going to be doing your standard close-to-medium-grip style with a shirt, no fricking way.
Same goes for squat briefs and suits and deadlift suits. There's a reason raw guys suck when they first put on gear, and that geared guys usually suck when they go back to competing raw for a while. It's completely different and requires a radical change in training and re-learning how to groove everything to match the adjustment to what you're doing.
