I swear last time I saw this image it was claiming that he did only chinups, with no pushes of any kind. And that's why it was interesting because his pecs and tris are more developed than you'd think.

If it's chins and dips... then this turns more into a cautionary tale about limiting yourself to vertical movements. Yeah, the dude's got lats but absolutely no thickness. Looks like a cartoon from the side. He'd look better if he stuck to inverted rows and pushups.

      Anonymous

Interesting. Do horizontal movements give you profile thickness?

        Yes. Traps and rhomboids.

his nervous system isn't acustomed to the movements, the major part of powerlifting records is the nervous system adaptation, they don't translate entirely to general strength, which makes his 2plate for reps bench really impressive. he could get them really fast with regular training. also, he only does cardio for legs

A lot of calisthenics comes down to be being stubborn and refusing to admit you're wrong. They gravitate towards the idea as a noobie and never want to admit it's subpart/not ideal. They put in so much effort for shit that could be achieved with 50% as much time/effort using conventional means.

wrong about what? I don't even do calisthenics, but their workouts translate much better to general athleticism than getting strong in several particular movements

Just stating facts. If you get a two genetically identical people and have one work out with traditional weights, and the other with a calisthenics program, the one training calisthenics is going to have to put in significantly more work/effort for similar results to the traditional lifter.

But I guess you got your "functional strength"

          Anonymous

Some people care more about relative strength because they want to do bouldering and other sports where it gives them an advantage. You can't really deny the incredible athletic prowess and control it takes to do things like handstand push-ups and L-sit ring dips

            Anonymous

that's like you saying you can't deny the prowess of top crossfit 'athlete's.. none of those people actually train by doing crossfit

Im sorry but top crossfit athletes look better than 95% of this board

            >You can't really deny the incredible athletic prowess
yeah you can, doing pull ups and planks isn't some incredible shit. If you wanted to train for bouldering, weight lifting with a few calisthenic/grip movements added in would do a much better job. Weight lifting can do everything calisthenics can, but more efficiently. But calisthenics gays always have some "strictly calisthenics" mindset rather than just picking a mix of effective exercises for their goals. This ties back into my original point of

A lot of calisthenics comes down to be being stubborn and refusing to admit you're wrong. They gravitate towards the idea as a noobie and never want to admit it's subpart/not ideal. Woah, what if I told you you could do both? Oh right, cause calisthenics morons somehow turn it into a purity test and HAVE to only do calisthenics

              >Woah, what if I told you you could do both? Oh right, cause calisthenics morons somehow turn it into a purity test and HAVE to only do calisthenics
learn to read, where did I tell that you cannot do both, or something that contradicts it? there's also a limited number of exercises you can fit into the workouts and at a certain point most people have to specialize and choose whether they're more interested in geting better at things like human flags or planches or big squat numers. and have you even thought that people doing calisthenics either don't have time or access to the gym, not some kind of "purity test"?

              >yeah you can, doing pull ups and planks isn't some incredible shit.
That's not what they said though. You listed basic moves that anybody can do. They listed advanced calisthenics moves that even bodybuilders who've been lifting for years struggle to execute at all. What people should train for largely comes down to what kind of sports and athleticism they're interested in
