I am gonna hit 90kg for 4-5 reps Pendlay rows in a while. Is that good for someone who weighs 70kgs?

      Anonymous

Yeah that's pretty good. I do like 110kg for 5 at 100kg bodyweight. My rear delts are huge and dense. Pendlay rows are THE lift for a big back. Do pullups too of course but everyone knows that.

110kg is cool asf, I do a lil bit of cheating tho by using momentum but I make sure the bar touches my tummy and I don't slam the weights during the eccentric these days.

      It's decent I guess.
Most people do rows really poorly, going slow and with limited range of motion near the top. You want to be explosive from the bottom of the movement and bring your elbow as far back behind you as you can. Make sure you are engaging your core, as this will allow you to explode from the bottom.
Pendlay rows and DB rows are the two horizontal pulling exercises to do. Focus on the above cues (you might need to lower the weight a bit at first) and you will improve your row bigly.

        >You want to be explosive from the bottom of the movement
this is why pendlays are the GOATed rowing exercise. biggest stimulus happens at long muscle lengths during exercise but for stuff like rows the long muscle length is the easiest part. so if you do them explosively, eg use most of the contraction force there, you get most stimulus at the part where it matters the most. and since you can put the weight down on floor, you don't have to worry about the heavy weight pulling on your tendons as much as it goes to bottom position.

Yeah, I personally favor DB rows, since it is unilateral, allowing for an increased range of motion at both the bottom and the top due to rotation, as well as incorporating the core into moving the weight through twisting (rather than just stabilization) in conjunction with back and arm.
But the Pendlay row does have advantages over the DB row as you point out, which is why I think both the Pendlay row and DB row are pretty much the only rowing variations you need, since they complement each other perfectly.

yeah I do my DB rows super setted after bench press and they feel great.
