So obviously better breathing has a lot of benefits (voice, energy, etc). I'm 21 so it's not like I'm gonna be saving my jawline or whatever, but I want tips for how to breathe better and properly and really help my breathing maximize my daily life, reducing tiredness and whatnot.
How do I know that I'm "breathing through my diaphragm" correctly?
Should I consciously start inhaling and exhaling to strenous max capacity? Will that be good for me or is that dumb? I legit don't know anything about this stuff so taking all the help I can get
Also unrelated but I have like 4 gray hairs at my age am I cooked? What's up with that and what do I do
its over
I need to improve my breathing
I'm not watching any tiktok videos. I'm posting on IST's fitness subreddit
I don't understand this type of breathing. Why only do one or the other? You can fill your lungs entirely by breathing both with your diaphragm and then with your rib muscles. First do the stomach breath, then do the normal breath
Imagine being so stupid you need to watch a tiktok video on how to breathe.
Options field, boy
>Should I consciously start inhaling and exhaling to strenous max capacity?
do the opposite of this OP. Theres a big divide when it comes to the healthiest breathing method but I know some anons on here and myself have had incredible results with the Buteyko breathing method. Theres a couple books you can rip that explain it, but the philosophy is to train yourself to need to breathe as little as possible. It makes sense when you think about it.
Here is a hypothetical, a big fat guy walks up the stairs and gets to the top, when he reaches the top he is breathing heavily and gasping for air, then a /it/izen chad walks up the stairs and you cant even hear him breathe, which one is healthier.
Now think about this scenario. A little baby is sleeping peacefully and quietly, stomach bobbing up and down, then he starts breathing through his chest and at a higher rapidity then before, you would immediately think something is wrong because he is overberathing.
Start breathing less.
Next time you go for a run or a walk hold your breath for as long as you can, you will feel that starvation for oxygen, that feeling is the signal that you are strengthening your lungs.
I have been lungmaxxing for 8 months now and can breathe easier than I ever could my whole life.
Thanks a lot, this one response made making the thread worth it. I will research and try it out.
>hold your breath
Black person I did this, strained my neck, and then lost sensation in my neck nerves for over half a decade. this is probably some of the worst advice one can give, although it did give me a deranged physique. Not optimal for health or cognitive processes, you're on one
>strained my neck, and then lost sensation in my neck nerves for over half a decade.
bro how tf is that from holding your breath. get your one off example out of my thread gay
I would hold my breath while playing FPS' in between university assignments on high doses of stimulants and I'm fricking shredded. Post physique homosexual I mog you and give you sound advice
Being on stimulants sounds like it changes the equation
Not really, consisted after stimulants until recently
look at
. It will literally make you go insane. Wouldn't recommend
>I would hold my breath while playing FPS' in between university assignments on high doses of stimulants and I'm fricking shredded. Post physique homosexual I mog you and give you sound advice
you are literally agreeing with me dude. heres body
so you're trying to give yourself the effects of sleep apnea but while awake.
Your hematocrit must be in orbit. I hope you have good medical coverage when you stroke out or get acute thrombosis.
>hematocrit
You only do it for a little bit, not all the time. you wouldnt bench press 24/7 just a once a week. It is an exercise. The overall goal is to not need to breathe as much but feel satisfied with the shorter breaths you take in.
everyone pay your respects to the original breathmaxxer
I am taking over your thread op. Breathing has been my main subject of personal study for quite some time.
I meant to say, but this is obligatory reading for breathmaxxers. I might make a book chart if this thread is still up tomorrow
Make the chart anyway and if its not still up make your own thread, ill keep an eye out for it
NAC and quercetin helps too
Good advice will add to the cardio routine.
>cardio
AHAHAHAHAHA LOOK AT THIS homosexual HE DOES CARDIO HAHAHAHAHA "OoOOoOH loOk aT Me!! I cAN rOOOOOONNNN aND NOT RUN OUT OF BREATH!!!" HAHAHAHAHA LOL OK RLLY???? XD WHAT AABOUT YOUR GAINZZ BRO???!! WHAT'S YOUR DEADLIFT BROOO?? I BET I CAN OVERHEAD PRESS THAT SHIT!! LOOOLLL XDXDXDXD
Not. Gonna. Make. It. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Finished it. If any other anon's have recs let me know
You need to get into Yoga
Is this some shit only incels do like nofap?
I can imagine you weirdos randomly holding your breath on a date to unlock some magic anime powers and then wondering why she left early and ghosted you.
lol who I am I kidding you homosexuals never went on a date.
There is one important thing all amateur breathmaxxxxxers overlook. Due how hemoglobulin work, o2 and co2 work together inversely. To separate bound o2 from it you need co2 in your blood. If you breathe more than you need you oversaturate blood with o2 while depleting the co2, guess what happens? Try breathing big and fast for no reason, you will start loosing your vision and feeling dizzy as your veins shrink and your o2 starved brain starts shutting off. If you want to breathemax you want to optimise it such that you achieve the perfect balance.
this anon knows
yeah, leave us alone to do our magical anime shit
>How do I know that I'm "breathing through my diaphragm" correctly?
if your ripcage doesn't go up and down you're good
did any of you imbeciles ever take an anatomy class?
obviously it cant be completely static as the surrounding tissue moves, are you completely devoid of nuance? autism mental moronation or what?
Thanks. I also heard to make sure your shoulders don't move up and down
I just tried doing it wrong on purpose and its harder to do, but possible to not move your shoulders up and down, they roll backwards and forwards. so Id say no shoulder movement at all or no ribcage expansion
Check out Core Balance Training on YouTube, and maybe do the 1 week free trial of his program. It really helped me fix my breathing habits.
The time and effort you're spending on this would be better spent on getting lean.
>exhale through the mouth
70 IQ meme
I don't intend to exhale through my mouth yeah
This guy? https://youtube.com/@CoreBalance?si=PDWq-UJCXRuCyJN0
>This guy?
Yeah. The first week of his program really focuses on breathing correctly, but you can probably find videos on his channel that cover the same stuff in the program.
You're supposed to breathe 'from' your lower diaphragm aka your belly and fill your lungs to the top. Your lower abs are always supposed to be slightly engaged at all times. Practice laying down in bed.
Is that something I should be consciously practicing whenever I get the chance? Like just constantly practicing? Or should I dedicate a certain time of day/night to do it habitually?
Thanks, I'll check him out
it's supposed to be natural. practice in bed first, it's a lot harder walking but it comes naturally over time. you want to breathe slow too, start 5 sec in 5 sec out, work your way up to 20 seconds and beyond. it's excellent to calm your nerves and reduce stress or blood pressure. you can always be 'flexing' your lower abs while walking. fully flex your lower abdomen and then release until maybe a 10%flex, if that helps.
I’ve been gone for like 3 days. How are you people putting images in your names
this is a April Fools board, non-celebrators get out
Breathmaxxing bros how are we doing today.
Unfortunately breathmaxxing is tough for me as I can't fully breathe out of my nose due to chronically swollen sinuses because of a severe and borderline crippling dust mite allergy. Any crackpot theories to help? Meds the docs have given don't work, allergy shots take years, air filters and anti allergen stuff barely has any effect. Anything?
Plug your nose and exhale frequently. Seemed to diminish my swollen sinuses, do it with water in your mouth
>*hits chinktonium vape*
Exhale through my mouth or through my nose, like a valsalva maneuver?
you can try a neti pot
Been doing that for six months. All it does is aggravate my nasal passage and cause it swell even more. My sinuses are completely swollen shut so the water and meds cant get it in there. I have no smell or taste at all.
have you tried this?
?si=Ex9lsHq_hAeHXp7B
Yes. Once again my shit is so swollen that nothing really even gets in there. Anything that has had a positive effect is extremely minor and only works for a very short period of time. One time I steamed myself in the shower for like 20 straight minutes as hot as I could stand it and immediately used the strongest nasal sprays the doctor prescribed me after doing a nasal rinse. I got maybe 3 good breathes before everything closed back up.
only other thing I could suggest is headstand/shoulderstand
?si=Z_5unBrpPRp5Oh3-
Get a mite vacuum for the bed. You won't be live the amount of shit it sucks out of your mattress and pillow, and you'll get some relief
>allergy shots take years
Have you tried allergy shots? They have immediate relief, the part that takes years is growing a tolerance to the allergies.
t. take allergy shots from a really good ent
Give this a shot. walk around while holding your breath, then when you breathe breathe in through your nose not your mouth, if it is stopped up then youre not ready to breathe yet, keep walking and holding your breath. (This will be tough), then you should be able to breathe through your nose, continue walking around and holding your breath until your nose is completely open. drugs dont help. I was in the same position you were where I could never breathe through my nose and breathing less was the only thing that fixed it.
I have similarly swollen sinuses but random things ease it, like sex and working out. I think severe agoraphobia has made running and hiking, something i used to do regularly, very hard for me and i regularly have panic attacks / breathing attacks doing them unless its under specific conditions.
If i run/hike in the morning and on an empty stomach, no issues at all have a great time. Afternoon / mid day i start to feel panicky and short of breath and can never get a “rhythm” at all. I’ll start to pull air bubbles into my chest and throat that i have to burp out to breath and if i cant get it out it feels like im fricking dying
Ive seen more specialists than you can imagine breathebros and they dont know whats up with me. Lung tests out the wazoo show i have very poor lung function but perfectly healthy looking lungs. Technically not asthmatic either believe it or not as inhalers never did anything for me and lung function tests showed that as well (only 10% increase in fev). I have smaller than normal airway but not exceptionally. I have very swollen sinuses. The pulmonologists i went to suggested maybe a vocal chord dysfunction which ive been looking into. Could also just be plain anxiety
Any tips for me breathemaxxers?
>I have similarly swollen sinuses but random things ease it, like sex and working out.
You know you are in the right when every random anon that pops in the thread proves your points.

Anons, how do I get my tongue to hit the roof of my mouth? I want to stop mouth-breathing while asleep
have you tried mouth tape and sleeping on your side?
Mouth taping is a meme, a tiktok scam designed to sell a product. It isnt actually proven to be beneficial
>Mouth taping is a meme, a tiktok scam designed to sell a product
mouth taping was not invented by tiktok bro, just use duck tape. It works though its unnecessary
The point is that mouth taping is propagated by charlatans. Once again, it is not proven anywhere by any study to be beneficial
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9498537/
mouth taping was a game changer for me in terms of tolerating cpap therapy. It helps keep leaks to a minimum
>put tape over mouth
>dont breathe through mouth
its not complex man
just breathe homie
