>buy cheap dumbbell bars
>shit chrome plating peeling and giving me splinters all over the place within a week of use
>complain online
>people tell me I shouldn't have bought cheap shit
>buy a more expensive set instead
>it's the exact same shit, identical issues except I paid much more for it
are adjustable threads + spinlock inherently a dumb idea? should I just go olympic? I'd have to get new weights since the hole sizes don't match though

I've had these kinds for years and never had an issue.
same, got these about a year ago and I love them. they are a great investment. but be wary guys, the rubber rings can fall out and you can lose them easily, so just be wary of that.
I just removed the rubbers in the beginning all together. Same with my EZ bar. The fasteners are much less likely to losen themself that way and I always have a screw clamp lying aroung in case they get stuck on the weights.
Same. Sounds like a (You) problem, OP.
First mistake is buying standard in the first place, if you can sell those for a good price I would and then buy Olympic instead
I haven't had a problem with the cheap spinlock dumbbells I bought during the lockdowns.
Spinlock is great when you dont want any chance of the weight slipping off the bar imo. Otheriwse, olympic has a bigger ecosystem these days
If you are in the Uk, mirafit do decent spinlock/standard stuff and have great customer service. The vast majority of stuff I have got from mirafit has been olympic but still. If its good metal its fine.
Spinlocks and Olympic are just gay time wasters, get adjustables that got up to 40kg like bowflex
Ajustable dumbells are ok for that beginner-intermediate range. But getting huge ajustable dumbells is nearly impossible, excluding ironmaster's ones which are actually good.
U muscles do not know that u lift. Ur are just a moron
i have plastick pin lock dummies and they still work lol
My long term suggestion, just buy good old fixed dumbbells and a dumbbell stand.
Maybe start with a small yet useful collection like
5kgs-10kgs-20kgs
and then as time passes months,a year, etc you start filling the gaps and expanding your set like
5kg - 8kg - 10 kg - 12,5kg - 15 kg - 20 kg - 25kg
You dont really need to go heavy with dumbbell training ,just do more reps, 20 reps with 25kg dumbbells should be difficult for almost every exercise.
But if you do 40 or more reps I strongly suggest buying heavier dumbbells
gay suggestion, asjustable/expandable options take up far less space etc
I had adjustable dumbbells before, trust me once you try fixed dumbbells you wont go back.
Maybe adjustable dumbbells have its place to heavy weight lifting or to increase maxes, but if you are focuse more on body building than strength building fixed dumbbells are more than enough and more convenient.
Wrap the grip with hockey tape, that's what I did and it works fine
it's most likely the threads that flake, not the grip
I've had some of those cheap frickers for damn near a quarter century now. Got a tad rusty and shit but they still work as good as they ever did.
The price of being a moronic
Made in China?
yo moron, lightly go over all the plates and grips with rough grip sandpaper. Takes fricking 20 seconds you mongoloid.
I'm getting these and there is no going back
they won't make a useful mace in case of home invasion
How lethal is an adjustable dumbbell mace?
Effective agaisnt knife wielding thieves?
It's a mace of solid metal. War maces were 1-3kg. Especially if you put only one 2,5-5kg plate on it as the head, which would make for a more concentrated impact than spreading the weight out with more plates, it could definitely be lethal if you manage to hit the guy straight in the head.
very effective against plate armored theives
>cheap
The keyword here. I have the exact same loadable dumbbells except they're longer so I can fit 100 lbs on one since I use DB for everything except legs. If I had money I'd get some cool shit like but they're $700 for a pair and max out at 75 lbs. Rogue also makes some really cool loadable dumbbells and they sell dumbbell bumper plates, but again, very expensive. I had to screw the things back tight between sets, but I also found a bunch of standard plates on craigslist and the whole thing was like $100, and like I said I can put 100 lbs on one dumbbell. The sky's the limit if you're willing to spend money. But I think working with the cheap stuff while you're figuring out what you want and how much you want to spend is ok.
Chrome plating is just moronic in general. Buy stainless. My old gym had expensive Rogue Pyrros bars, but they had the just slightly cheaper version with chrome plated sleeves. Nonstop chipping. Even scratched the frick out of my thigh one time with a piece of half attached plating.
i had olympic spinlocks and they worked fine
takes longer to adjust your dumbbells but at least the locks never fell off and smashed my face in
