Anyone know what I should do to fix this? Do I just need to stretch my calves more? I never noticed this happening before because I have never tensed my calves for no reason. No other muscle does this when I tense that I can find.
My calves don't cramp when I activate them during workouts, though they do get tight, tense and sore when I power walk or jog for longer periods than my usual.
Anyway feel free to talk about cramps in general I guess.
electrolytes and magnesium
/thread
Lack of electrolytes and magnesium would mean cramps in other muscles though?
I fricking hate my calves, how do I get rid of them?
Give them to me so I can swap out mine.
I fully reckon I get enough calories and electrolytes because I:
- am putting on weight
- drink Gatorade at workout
So would I not have other negatives in my body if it was just calories and electrolytes?
Also it isn't flexing until it hurts, it's flexing for 5 seconds until it cramps. During the day my calves cause me no issue in life.
Look up body armor liquid iv
Frick gatorade
Dont take creatine

If you can flex a muscle until it hurts it means you have trained the CNS interaction with that muscle. It's a good thing.
For cramps, electrolytes and calories.
My calves are like this 24/7 but they're huge. I assume I walk/cycle like a moron and somehow use my calve muscle too much
You mean your calves cramp when tensed 24/7? Because I'd say I'm opposite to you in that I really don't use my calves enough in general. Or at least activate them so they're pushing their limits.
As in. If I tense them they usually cramp. Sometimes they even 'lock' and its painful
Yea dude that's what I have. There's got to be something to this. My working theory is stretching. Do you stretch your calves regularly and appropriately?
I try and strech by pushing my heel against something like a plate on the floor while standing. But honestly something causes it to be tight so stretching is just a temp fix. Like I said I assume it's how I walk around. Seemingly using my calves and not my legs
After I got a tricep cramp for the first time (3-4 months ago), my right tri will randomly start twitching throughout the day but hasn't cramped since.
Fricked nerves maybe?
I get this too, but I can feel myself about to get cramp and if I untense my calf just in time I can stop the cramp. Suppose it doesn't matter much, unless you get cramp every time you tense them (for me it's like 1 in 10 at worst).
Cramps might be caused due to lower back problems. Do you have pain there? If yes, warming therapy because nerves are quenched from too hard lower back muscles
Same issue here, and adding magnesium supplements indeed did help in my case, so worth a try to see if there's a deficiency. I can still get cramps in feet occasionally but it's not that often anymore.
The most common cause is overworking them, i.e. they need more rest. Second most common cause is the lack of electrolytes, i.e. salts and water.
