i been working out [seriously] for over a decade now.
ive only RECENTLY (within the last 2 years) committed to only using machines and dumbbells.
i dont think my anatomy agree's with bar work outs. i prefer close grip on basically every work out & all my joints hurt when im using bar's.
And i barely do any dumbbell work out's because it takes a lot of energy just getting to the starting position, basically only do them when all machines are occupied or if i feel like flexing on the smoll homosexuals around me.
idk if it's jus cuz i ego lifted when i was younger and my body is just wrecked at this point, but i dont think that's the case; just based on study of anatomy, lifting, form etc.
tl;dr, YES u can get "decently" swole using just machines. They're literally designed to be optimal and you have some autonomy in how you engage said machine that best suits you (seat height / grip)

Yes easily. You can train at volumes that would wreck other lifters because machines are really easy on connective tissue. But I think the best approach would be alternate between machines and free weights so you can get your higher recruitment lifts and gain strength quickly in those and machines to get more area specific volume.

You can get pretty big on machines only but you'd probably have to pick a dead hour. It's hard trying to actually do a whole routine time effeciently when there's like 3 camping the lat pull down and a arcade-like line for the cables.

yes, but you should be using a combination if your goal is to look good. I do all my rowing and pulldowns on machines, while I do variations of dumbbell bench press for my chest. You don't have to use a barbell though, at all.

Yes, you can get pretty swole using only machines. You can also look very good, too. HOWEVER it will take you longer and be less efficient than if you incorporated both free weights (especially compound lifts) and machines into your routine.
