yeah but squatting is more efficient compared to other movements. spend twice as long doing 3 movements vs just squatting 3-5 sets with adequate volume to stimulate growth. no shortcuts. just squat pussy. work on mobility if you can't go atg.
how do you avoid knee pain? I can only squat like once a week because of it, it's like my kneecap is sliding about and sometimes it gets "stuck"/locksup and I have to ease it back into place
You might have a patellar tracking issue. Muscular imbalances/tightness pull your patella off the groove it is typically supposed to be on. Really common thing these days, most people have it to some degree. We don't exactly live in an environment which encourages natural mobility habits
For me, I had tight IT band, tight + overdeveloped quads, and underdeveloped adductors (inner thigh), so my kneecap was being pulled outwards. I also had issues with activating my glutes, which contributed to too much load being put on the quad and thus contributing to the problem. I got some massages and improved my stretching habits, started hitting the adductor machine, and started working on my glute engagement. I have seen significant improvement since then, though I do NOT try and squat ATG anymore, I go to parallel. ATG is worth doing as a mobility exercise but some people's biomechanics just aren't conducive to squatting that deep with a heavy load.
I don't study this stuff or anything, so don't treat it as medical advice lol. I would recommend scheduling an appointment to see a physiotherapist though and have them take a look at what's going on. Even if that is too expensive to do on a regular basis, a single appointment should at least provide you with some direction.
Leg extension machine is pretty nice. I don't like it because I need to feel the bar to have fun, but out of all machine workouts leg extensions are my favorite.
No natty ever got big legs from leg press alone. Ever. A guy who squats 315x1 will have juicier legs than a dipshit who leg presses 1000x20 with ultra strict form. Fact. Leg press is worthless except for injury rehab.
Yeah you just separate legs into diffent lifts.
I'd still recommend at least leg press as the bread and butter of your lower body volume bur if you have a lift for each quads, calfs, glutes, hamstrings and posterior chain you have pretty full leg day that's not exhausting as hell.
SS + GOMAD

No
Correct
you don’t
Just try single leg press
Yeah I just do a lot of cardio (stair runs with weighted vest, cycling up and down hills, swimming, MMA) and never leg day. Got big trunk legs.
You think I could get this with ultra high rep bodyweight squats? (1000+)
I love circuit style exercise
