hyperphantasia isn't not good, it's how schizos see the world. If your brain creates images that are too realistic you run the risk of losing a grip on reality
so is this the one where you can see an image in your head while your eyes are open?
mine are pretty realistic and accurate but they only like flash for 1 or 2 seconds i cant hold them
if you can't do advanced prophantasia but with your eyes open you're literally an NPC

It can happen with brain damage or developmental issues, those circuits and parts of the brain responsible for this effect do not work. It's pretty debilitating.
Aphantasic npc here
It's most likely a problem between the front of the brain (thoughts) and the back of the brain (optic center). Communication between those areas doesn't work voluntarily. Dreaming is still mostly fine. (If you don't dream you got another problem than aphantasia, see a doctor) I kinda improved my recall of dreams since taking certain mushroom extracts (specifically lions mane plays a part in this, I assume)
Judging from how many people are now coming forward who are like me, an educated guess is around 3-5% of people are this way. I just think it's an interesting different mode of experiencing the world and yourself.
I sometimes like to remember times I had sex with some girl for fap material. I can see it quite well in my mind and I can also recall the tactile feeling even even better. Can you do that if its a memory?
I used to have it and now it's gone, very upsetting but honestly not that different as I can still imagine things I just don't see them and it hasn't impeded my artistic ability.
Can you read books? (non fiction) or is it too annoying? Whenever I read a book, and someone describes a church for example, I have to think of a church that I have seen at some stage in my life. Or a better example would be a kitchen. If a book describes a kitchen, I almost always think of my own or another kitchen I have been in. Or if the book is set in the 60s, I'll think of a kitchen from Mad Men or something. Is this normal? Autism?

same thing for me, but I like it that way. I have a pool of houses/rooms/apparments and other locations or buildings that my imagination draws from when reading a book. It's always interesting to me what my brain chooses, because it's always unvoluntary.
Another thing that's interesting is that memory is somehow built by the hypothalamus that is also responsible for orientation. I'm not sure if I recall it correctly, but something along these lines. What I realized is that whenever I learn something, e.g. something language related or some piece on piano, my brain automatically connects that content to a completely random location that's part of the pool I talked about earlier. Since I realized this I trained it and my memory capabilities became much better. I think many people know this phenomenon when they remember on what part of the page in a book the information was and can with that image in their head recall the information. But you can push this method much further.
Threads still up, pretty interesting considering this is a fitness board
I like to read if the topic is interesting to me. I'm now reading an 800 page tome of sorts on meditation, already at page 400 with much technical detail and methodology. Not boring in the slightest.
When a book has "a kitchen" written I usually just acknowledge that it's a kitchen and move on with that purpose in mind. If you'd as me to describe a kitchen I'd most likely list you things in my own kitchen, though.
I sometimes like to remember times I had sex with some girl for fap material. I can see it quite well in my mind and I can also recall the tactile feeling even even better. Can you do that if its a memory?
Also an interesting thing about aphantasia. It seems to be common that autobiographical memory is more generalized, meaning people with aphantasia can't recall memories in vivid detail as some other people might.
When I jerk off using my 'imagination' I usually concentrate of the immediate pleasure of touching myself with feelings I have for certain people. But I can also still recall how good I felt when having sex.
I used to have it and now it's gone, very upsetting but honestly not that different as I can still imagine things I just don't see them and it hasn't impeded my artistic ability.
There are multiple people this happened to which also kickstarted research into this in the early 2000s. How did this come about in your case? It's mostly after operations involving putting the patient completely under with anesthesia.
There is a surprisingly large amount of people who literally cannot think. They just react to things and justify their decisions after taking them rather than predicting what the results of your actions might be. They can't imagine things or have internal monologue.
I have common or hyper phantasia.
Most of the time I just intuit things and don't think. Probably looks like I am reckless a lot of the time. People think I am more clever than I actually am, because I also have high verbal and emotional intelligence and it flows great with that.
I only actively think as in introspective analysis when I have to, which for most daily shit isn't necessary. Mostly harder and more abstract problems, and it's harder and straining and I am worse at it than people who live their entire life in this mode.
Also this. It sounds insane to be unable to conjure images with your mind, but you'll meet people - even intelligent people - without any such ability if you start asking around. It's crazy.
Well skill acquisition shares many of the qualities of lifting principles. Principles like intensity, volume, and frequency can be used to optimize skill acquisition and lifting heavy actually uses brain power so you cant perform as well on other tasks that require the brain afterwards. So in a way, the most gains from sleep to a lifter might be neurological. That being said, brain training is a lot less rigorous of a field so i would suggest just learning something difficult for the sake of it and have a good balance of styles. That being immagination, critical thinking, spacial reasoning, verbal reasoning. Basically if your read classics, study math (not just computations but also theory), and do art then you would be in a good spot.
Oh and to add, for the art it should be things that you imagine. It will humble you at first but then if you keep at it people will think you are an alien with how youre capable of doing such a thing.
Yea prophantasia is something some folk practice while meditating. I like to close my eyes and imagine see the numbers while counting my breath. I also draw out more complex shapes one line at a time and it becomes easier over time. I have hyper phantasia so I don't focus on that.
>think of a cat >cat comes alive >cat is a huge black Tomcat ruling the nights and sleeping on a comfy old chair with an old lady during the day, its huge claws are feared by all and molly in heat is mewling for him >rumors are he once killed a terrier just for fun
Imaging shit is not a problem. Staying focused otoh.
yes, but it depends. to develop intelligence coupled with imagination, and intelligence as definition is the capacity to receive interpret and replicate information yours or not from you inside yourself or into the world, such ability needs to help your survival and NOT the opposite. now you need and example, medieval parchments used random pigments and drawings for animals because they would have got the picture wrong anyway, points for european imagination, same with science developing alongside the pyre of the church, imagination mysticism high spirituality and secrecy, with thriftness. but in a cave on the middle of the savana you barely need imagination, you need to run to grab and eat. so its possible specially now , God is wise and allows his children the glory of personal development and responsibility. TlDr its a tool of survival you will think about needing or not depending on your life and life choices, but communism is a lie.

According to OP's image I'd be at hyper phantasia and lack of / very low functioning prophantasia
With eyes open I can kinda "turn them off" and imagine whatever I want in high detail in the mind's space, or "leave the eyes on" and insert what I'm imagining in the world I'm seeing
As soon as I close my eyes I have a very hard timing finding that mind space, though eventually I do it. Painting stuff on the black space is even harder
I can only see things when I mentally “draw” them, like the image doesn’t immediately come. I have to outline it in my head almost like I’m drawing it. Am I moronic bros
I have an internal monlogue (although sometuimes I'm discussing things with other/being interviewed), but can't see anything in my mind's eye.
I'm not convinced people actually "see" a thing though, when they imagine it. Like if you asked me to picture a bowl of fruit I can. There isn't an image infront of me, or in my head, but I know every property that image has; its more like a memory of a picture, if that makes sense. I think people who "see" images just convince themselves this memory is real. Maybe they really do though, but I don't see how anyone could ever prove either way.
>There isn't an image infront of me, or in my head, but I know every property that image has; its more like a memory of a picture, if that makes sense.
I dunno, when I imagine things it's definitely more an idea or thought than exactly visual, but it's definitely more visual than verbal (though I can visualize things and "see" them either in my head or externally around me, likely thanks to years and years of maladapted daydreaming lol). If I want to describe the properties I have to mentally "look at it" to come up with those properties. Like it's absolutely not verbal and has to be translated with some effort.
I do also have verbal thoughts and an internal monologue too though.
They are probably inversely correlated. which makes the whole 'npc' discussion meaningless. Now someone's going to greentext this with the grey wojak

I'm the same way but I do believe it. for one thing when you're dreaming, brain activity changes in a way that does let you see things that aren't actually seen by your eyes. It's understandable that some people have some degree of this when they're awake. Also drugs make people hallucinate and some people hallucinate even without drugs.
I try to not do It,I cant control my phantasia,my brain goes insane,I can try to picture a cat like that but then It might morph every milisecond to anything from a weird creature to a Planet or a star or abstract shapes, its like a rapid fire I cant control and gives me anxiety/headaches sometimes.
>Subconscious wants to speak to you.
Well then its kinda doing a terrible job at it! what an incohemprensible mess!
Did/do you suffer the same? I mean its nothing terrible but I wouldnt mind having it solved/normal instead of actively avoiding it until I cant.
I go straight to the point with everyone suggest you do the same, at most they can get slightly mad like (you),at best you save time and mental effort.
Im pretty low functioning when visualizing. When I close my mind and try to think on an object all I can really imagine is its logical location in space.
I see black space unless I think of numbers. I think I can see numbers because I "trained" it doing mental arithmetics. I can also look at a very large number and remember it because I can see it in my mind but I can't do the same with words or images.
This is actually very common in occult practice, many books recomend and even detail visualization exercises.
Most start from simple geometric shapes and move on from there. "Initiation into hermetics" has some and I think Crowley did as well.
When I think of my mom or bother it's hyperphantasia. Probably because constant exposure has created extremely detailed visual memories of them and the mental image is in part constructed using memories.
Is it weird if I fluctuate between all of these?
I can't imagine the things that charts like these propose but when I think about stuff on my own terms I can do it very easily.
I can't conjure the actual material image of a cat in my retinas but I can imagine exactly what it would be like if it was there. I can do the same with sounds. I can't actually make my ears vibrate but I can still listen to a song deeper in my mind. Is that what they mean? There's no way people are just summoning hallucinations at will.
Wait a second, so phantasia is visualising things inside of head and prophantasia is... seeing them in front of you while your eyes are closed? I don't get it
To me that's the same thing
I mostly fantasize with open eyes
I suppose I've unknowingly been doing mental exercises for years. Whenever I have trouble falling asleep, I lay down and visualize manipulating something with my hands, paying attention to what the different textures feel like. I played a lot of baseball and basketball when I was younger, so usually I start with these. I can still feel the bumps on the basketball or the seams of the baseball.
I can imagine any cat you want all the way from its nose to deep inside its colon but I'm not seeing that motherfricker. People aren't really claiming to break the matrix are they?
I'm not an npc, I can take the IQ test spacial reasoning images and manipulate them every which way in my head to immediately solve the question but I'm not bending light rays or my eye cones and conjuring an actual image of it. I mean, come on..
The majority of people don't have aphantasia, they just don't know how the frick to express themselves, and I think this is a bigger problem. People have no creativity, sensibility and vocabulary to express their feelings, this hurts the mind and more importantly, the soul. Also, just read good fiction and you are golden.
did anyone claim that the majority of people have aphantasia? I'm pretty sure only very few people have it, like people that have musical anhedonia.
Then again, it could be that it will be more widely spread due to smartphones. People don't need their imagination anymore. When I grew up I didn't even have internet, I didn't even have a computer or gaming console as a child.
So if I am hyper and advanced how do I cultivate these powers. I can picture a cat thinking of a cat with my eyes open and with my eyes closed. I can hold these images in full color and watch them move, grow, and make sounds. Obviously I am some kind of super human. Someone redpill me. I also have no desire to hear from anyone less than hyper and advanced. Maybe I'm actually moronic because I cannot fathom not being able to be hyper or advanced. To me that idea resembles death of the mind and it is beyond my understanding
Look into western esoterocism most of it involves tons of visualization and shit and forcing yourself into schizophrenia and whatnot.
>he doesn't constantly see the tree of life and asll his chakras and myraid energy paths winding and flowing throughout and hyper-dimensional geometry encircling himself 24/7
ngmi
How do I read these without other schizos feeding my insanity with their mental insanity. Is there a safe way to understanding the reading without self psychosis like a homie trying to project a tulpa of his favorite succubus pony?
when you think about a cat what is the cat doing, generally speaking? is it just a picture? maybe its what you picture when you think about a cat. how you think, picture, imagine it depends on who you are.
Anyone else have it so bad that you can not even draw something a little more complex unless you have concrete details on the properties of that object?
the only time i really 'see' things in my head is after gooning. otherwise i think it's aphantasia or very close to it. I would say that is a way to do it, to simply see and briefly study tens of thousands of images/videos in a short time but I don't know if it would work outside of porn or if it has any long term effect. I kind of doubt it really.
I cant tell of im left or right
I can picture a cat clearly by thinking about it but like its not the same as seeing one irl, that would just be hallucinations right?
So youre saying the left people cant imagine a cat at all?!
How the hell is it even possible to be anything but common/hyper phantasia? Isn't that how the brain is supposed to work?
hyperphantasia isn't not good, it's how schizos see the world. If your brain creates images that are too realistic you run the risk of losing a grip on reality

It's called daydreaming you Black folk.
Literal cope. Most people think this way. At worst, it might correlate with anxiety/"autism", but there's nothing schizo about it
>This is what low iq left brain public school kids believe.

not him but for me i imagine things entirely using words. if a book says "red house" i can't picture a red house but i know that there is a red house
Instantly a red wooden house with a black painted roof pops up into my head when I read that.
I share the planet with dolts.

Are Phantasia and internal monologues linked?
I have an internal monlogue (although sometuimes I'm discussing things with other/being interviewed), but can't see anything in my mind's eye.
I'm not convinced people actually "see" a thing though, when they imagine it. Like if you asked me to picture a bowl of fruit I can. There isn't an image infront of me, or in my head, but I know every property that image has; its more like a memory of a picture, if that makes sense. I think people who "see" images just convince themselves this memory is real. Maybe they really do though, but I don't see how anyone could ever prove either way.

Is it weird if I fluctuate between all of these?
I can't imagine the things that charts like these propose but when I think about stuff on my own terms I can do it very easily.
Anecdotally I felt way sharper in school when I was actually forced to read and write all the time
Now I just watch TV and browse IST and it feels like my brain has rotted
I can't conjure the actual material image of a cat in my retinas but I can imagine exactly what it would be like if it was there. I can do the same with sounds. I can't actually make my ears vibrate but I can still listen to a song deeper in my mind. Is that what they mean? There's no way people are just summoning hallucinations at will.
Read books anons. Books that narrate stories. They train your imagination.
That is why zoomers and the next generation have trouble visualizing images. They grew with smartphones and it stunted their mental development.

I think you can practice that, I think OP's image is pretty accurate. I just tried prophantasia for a few minutes and actually got it to work.
The majority of people don't have aphantasia, they just don't know how the frick to express themselves, and I think this is a bigger problem. People have no creativity, sensibility and vocabulary to express their feelings, this hurts the mind and more importantly, the soul. Also, just read good fiction and you are golden.

Can people not normally make images in their heads?

How do I get into that?
This could do
How do I read these without other schizos feeding my insanity with their mental insanity. Is there a safe way to understanding the reading without self psychosis like a homie trying to project a tulpa of his favorite succubus pony?
No
Thanks.

What's the difference between thinking of a cat and projecting the image of a cat? I don't get it
eyes closed vs. eyes open i guess
when you think about a cat what is the cat doing, generally speaking? is it just a picture? maybe its what you picture when you think about a cat. how you think, picture, imagine it depends on who you are.
why is the cat molesting me
Anyone else have it so bad that you can not even draw something a little more complex unless you have concrete details on the properties of that object?
I can't even draw stick-men properly
the only time i really 'see' things in my head is after gooning. otherwise i think it's aphantasia or very close to it.
So youre saying the left people cant imagine a cat at all?!
not this shit again
they just stopped posting this on /ic/
