You need fats for more than just hormone synthesis but your point does stand regardless, to be fair. Once you meet your body's physiological requirement for fats (or protein) there's really no reason to eat more other than to make up your total caloric intake.

I always see the objection: oh it was like trans fats and margarine so if the trial is old and showed bad results, its irrelevant.
You can find about 2 dozen studies on animals showing increase in cancer so make of this what you will.
