He actually did a lot of low intensity activity like mild landscaping and gardening, not to mention walking a lot. This is the real key to longevity along with genetics. Regular, persistent low intensity exercise.

True, he was also a cavalry officer in his youth, so he had at least a baseline of fitness from his younger days.

And speaking only for myself, I'd rather be healthy, fit, and strong than live to ninety as a fat drunk. Quality over quantity, especially in old age.

Very much agree, which is why I try to do both. Train and play sports but also just walk places and shit. It's a double boon because anecdotally the people I knew who lived the longest also lived well the longest. People who die younger (outside of accidents and tragedies) seem to have bad last years. But it's still a crapshoot. Both my grandmas did everything right but one had a stroke in her mid 80s and was clueless and had to be taken care of after that while the other lived on her own with minor assistance unless she died at 93. Her brother is 95 and still pretty active.

Alcohol is heavily regulated most places and kills fewer of it's users than tobacco. The rest of those are illegal except benzos which requires a prescription.

                >Alcohol is heavily regulated most places
Incorrect, less regulations than tobacco and freely allowed to advertise and not heavily taxed

                > Incorrect, less regulations than tobacco and freely allowed to advertise and not heavily taxed

                https://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/features/excessive-alcohol-deaths.html

Number of tobacco deaths is over 3x number of alcohol deaths. And that's with fewer smokers than drinkers.

Of course I already know that you will just claim these stats are fake.

                >And that's with fewer smokers than drinkers.
drinkers are not drinking daily. try drinking liter of liquor a day vs smoking a pack a day. obviously drinking is worse.

Drunk driving deaths are about 15k per year, so even adding that it's nowhere close. The other numbers will be even lower.

Yes, that's the point. Most people can drink in moderation with limited harm to health, less so with tobacco, as the numbers show.

benzos and heroin might make you moronic but are not as physically damaging as tobacco or alcohol. in fact the only side effects of note from pure heroin are lower testosterone and constipation.
