every time i shave with a disposable bic razer, i still have a bit of a darker "shadow" color where my beard grows. i think that it's due to not using a razor that shaves close enough to my skin or something
i would also like to know what razors other anons are using

    Now listen to me kids
You should get one of these, a safety razor in the traditional folding shape. This is also known as a shavette. Buy some Japanese Feather razors for it. These things are cheap, and as each razor will provide several shaves, you will virtually never spend money on shaving again while also getting a great shave every time. When you use the same blade again, you can straighten the edge with a strop if you'd like, or even by stropping it across your own skin, though this isn't really necessary.
For shave soap you can use whatever you like, don't think you "need" a traditional brush and bowl. Use what you think is cool.

    >But won't I cut myself?
No. This folding shape is uniquely suited to shaving the face, once you're used to it, and not at all difficult to use. You will occasionally nick yourself shaving, but that's unavoidable and will also happen with dragging cartridges or anything else.

Shave when you're in the shower, with hot water and steam all around you. Get a hanging shower mirror. This beats the hell out of trying to keep hot water in the sink.

i recently bought one of these but im too stupid to figure out how to keep the blade from moving around once i place it into the shavette

        Anonymous

What? Snap a razor in half, set it in place, close it and drop the lever. If it's moving around AT ALL your shavette is busted, it should be thoroughly in place. Watch a YouTube video, this shouldn't be possible to mess up

That is not a safety razor, that is a straight razor. Safety razors replaced those and are called safety razors because they have a guard that prevents deep cuts. The attached image is a safety razor

Yes, the terminology has gotten muddled, but what I posted is technically a shavette, AKA a replaceable-blade straight razor. It's the best for most men. "Straight razor" makes people think of maintaining a traditional permanent blade, so I avoid the term. It isn't really a safety razor, but because the clasp increases the width just after the edge it actually acts similarly. It's very unlikely that you'll experience "deep cuts" with a shavette, or even a traditional blade unless you're very reckless.

Boring (fun) fact: Technically the correct term for a straight razor US (cut throat razor in the UK) is an open razor.

get a shavette. yes. But shave with cold water and a decent soap. buy Dorco, or korean brand blades. Shaving with a shavette isn't a fricking opera.

I occasionally use a safety razor but more typically one of the Gillette interchangeable handles that you can buy different cartridges for. I use the sensitive skin cartridges and regular shaving cream

If you do a clean shaved face daily, I'd recommend a double edge safety razor. Preferably a ~100 year old Gillette, since those are high quality and last forever. I've tried a bunch of different blades and prefer a brand called Astra. There's alot of people who recommend brands of Japanese blades like Feather, but I've tried those and imo they're overrated. A few 100 packs of blades will last you years and years. I prefer the safety razor simply because modern disposables are exponentially more expensive, plus you get a much closer shave when you get the hang of it.
When it comes to shaving cream I just use plain old classic Barbasol. I've found the foam is thicker than other brands, which I like. Stay the frick away from gel "foaming" shaving creams. Old-school shaving cream with a lathering brush is also a soiboi hipster meme, best to disregard it and just get plain canned cream.
You'll want to pick a good aftershave. When I would clean shave everyday, I used Pinaud Clubman. It smells fricking great and woman love it. Also, don't fall for the meme of non-alcohol based aftershave. One of the main purposes of after shave is to sterilize your face so you don't get an infection.
These days, I have a beard and just detail with an electric trimmer. But I'll still splash some aftershave for the added scent.

Gotta correct you on some things

      >double edge safety razor
A single blade folding shavette is not only arguably an easier shape to work with, but having two blades creates uncertainty as to how worn each blade presently is. A single blade shavette allows you to get the most out of one blade before changing it, and it also enables straightening the edge via stropping

You don't need to get a 100 year old razor either, any stainless steel razor will last a very long time

I have a beard but I disagree. A clean-shaved face is more professional, and when it comes to women, a lot of them prefer a clean shaved face. A man with a strong jaw greatly benefits from a clean shave. Some women instead prefer a beard with volume if you can grow it. Almost no women like pubic stubble on your face.

Might look acceptable on a Hollywood actor or a dumb college kid, but otherwise having stubble looks like you're lazy. This stuff matters in the real world. Hollywood actors and models are irrelevant.

The only things acceptable in a professional environment are a well-groomed beard or clean shaven. That's it. Anything else makes you look like a square peg and/or lazy.

I disagree. Clean shaved looks slick and gives a lot of attention in terms of how a man carries the hygiene and his level of maturity. Same as we expect from a woman that takes care of her hair and make up style.
I wish I could be clean shaved, but I'm very ashamed because of my weak chin. I'm ugly, cannot hep it.

False. A clean shave and a strong jaw is very attractive, youthful, clean. Facial hair is primarily a tool of sculpting a lacking jaw, though not exclusively so.

The only people who unironically believe this are boomers. Yeah, no shit some 68 year old prot grannie isn’t voting for a guy with a beard. Boomers have already siphoned this nations wealth and now fight in their deathbeds to continue their cultural standards

Frick off. Anybody who requires being “clean shaven” for work and isn’t a fed is a fricking CLOWN. Yeah, an investment bank won’t hire you with a phenomenal resume/track record because MUH OLD FASHIONED CLEAN SHAVEN”. Same shit with tattoos. Performance/Productivity is KING. You’re an ape if you think your boss won’t fire you the second a guy with a beard applies who has literally double your productivity.

Except you're wrong. In public facing positions, being clean shaven is a net benefit and it shows you give a shit. When I worked as a hiring manager, if two people applied an one came in for the interview clean shaven and the other came in with hand tattoos and a beard, i would hire the one who was clean shaven, even if the one with the beard has a slightly better resume. Shaving your face demonstrates discipline and conscientious.

I am required to keep a clean shave. Disposables are 'OK' in the rush of a busy morning. Take the time every now and then to get a real shave. I enjoy a safety razor and although it takes a bit longer the shave also lasts three days instead of 1.5 - 2.

It's really made me keep a clean shave more often than before when I shaved at the sink
I regularly couldn't be fricked when I'd just gotten out of the shower, and it's very rare for me to take a bath, but when I'm in the shower I'm often quite comfortable and willing to spend the extra time assuming I actually have a mirror to shave properly

To be fair, the men on the left would still look masculine with facial hair. It depends more on facial structure and how you carry yourself. But beards have been nearly ruined by soibois. Luckily most of them can't grow anything other than chin pubes.
