No. He weighs in at that weight. I guarantee he fights at *at least* 145, because UFC is moronic and weighs its fighters in two days before the actual fight, and I'm pretty sure he said he walks around at like 160

Obviously grappling is a whole other thing, a punch is a punch is a punch. I could easily outpunch whoever it is that you mentioned.

I dunno, man. You gotta have good timing to land a punch on a guy who knows how to fight, and as a non-fighter if you're close enough to punch them then they're close enough to grab you, and from there it's over for you.

Bro O’Malley would frick up a rhino they suck at Jiu Jitsu

Are you trying to say "there is a limit to how much technique can out do strength" ? Because if so, I agree, however the difference between 160 pounds (sean o'malley's regular weight) and 200 pounds is not enough for it. Maybe 250 with an emphasis on strength and athleticism/cardio.

        He dehydrates before the weigh-in
The weigh-in is two days before the fight. Typically on Friday morning, then they fight on Sunday night
He definitely rehydrates during that time, refills his glycogen stores and all that. I guarantee that if you weighed him ten minutes before the fight, he would miss weight by at least 10lbs, probably 15. And as I said, he walks around at 75kg which is I think 165lbs

absolutely agree, most moronic practice ever.

        ONE has it right.
One weigh-in a few days before, one like 30min before the fight, plus some sort of test that determines water weight %. Granted, they have different problems, but at least they force fighters to actually fight at in their weightclass

        Anonymous

Well, then you're either walking around too lean for your own good (impeding your training performance and recovery) or gimping yourself by not fighting in the next lower weight class.
The latter is pretty based if you're successful because you're effectively beating up bigger people, but more than likely you'll have a pretty bad time

TBQH I think fighters should just be forced to fight at their walk-around weight

        >grappling
See, you're still thinking in terms of the sport. There's a near 100lb difference here for starters, and then you have to take into account the bloodlust, like previously said.

Grappling in an octagon is a controlled environment. Would it be so under a life or death situation on cold hard pavement? Has O'malley ever defended against a guy going balls to the wall, headbutting, biting, poking, and doing what ever he could to hurt him before? What would O'malley's psychological response to this be? What would his brain's response be when his training that didn't prepare him for this starts to fail him? Would he also give up his trained response as well?

Then, wouldn't that advantage the untrained larger attacker? Lots of variables and factors to consider. These guys are tough as nails but at the end of the day, they fight under sports rules in controlled environments with no real threat to their lives hanging on their minds.

          Anonymous

In a life or death situation you will not rise to the occasion, you will fall to your level of training. The untrained guy is more likely than not going to throw a couple of shitty punches and freeze up/shell up after getting hit hard once.
Also, the attacks that you train are trained for a reason. You can do them without even thinking, it's just sheer muscle memory and only a bit of conscious thinking about it.
And when it comes to those rule breaks you seem to find precious, please remember that O'malley can do all of those too, but with more precision and efficiency than some untrained lunkhead.
I do apologize for sounding like a pompous butthole though it's a bad habit.

Training and especially competing at a high level make you way better at dealing with danger and stress than some random guy with even less experience. Soldiers train and do wargames with limited danger to prepare them for the real thing. MMA is like that for irl fights.

you would get obliterated even harder on pavement than on a mat lmfao. Do you even know what takedowns might be used on you? Do you know how to defend against those takedowns? Can you do both of those things while also guarding yourself from strikes? Can you do all of that while keeping the pressure on because he's 10,000x more experienced than you and any time you give him means you're done?

I'm a strong and lean 6'1 220 and started doing Muay Thai and BJJ recently. The little experienced dudes in that basic ass gym would demolish me in a real fight.

Strength is an advantage in a fight, but skill is way more important. For strength to actually outweigh skill the difference has to be completely absurd, like Brian Shaw, Hafthor, etc. If you're not lean and 300+ lbs your strength will not matter nearly enough to save you from a professional fighter, no matter how small they are

        Anonymous

This, nobody who thinks they could beat these guys without training has ever been to a fighting gym. That whole
        >yeah I’d see red and power through it
mentality goes to bed real quick after rolling a couple times and getting ragdolled by a smaller dude or having the smaller guy punch and kick you at will. Strength and power without training lasts you about 5 unproductive seconds before your lack of coordination and know how catastrophically fails you.

Anyone that has done hard sparring before knows that an inexperienced person will gas out within 60 seconds of a real fight. Being ‘in shape’ from lifting and/or running does nothing to recreate the sort of cardio that actual fighting requires. Every man should experience how humbling that is as a newbie, and then work to achieve some level of combat readiness and maintain it well into old age.

Somebody in one of these threads posted the webm of O'Malley heeming Aljo. It was basically Aljo lunging at him rashly, O'Malley slipping the punch by a couple of inches, and blasting him over the top of his own punching arm. The way Aljo came at him, ie the tard rush, is exactly what an untrained guy would do, only much better because Aljo at least has experience punching people. It doesn't make me very confident about this board's chances in that fight. You would have to be much bigger to even stand a chance.

If he's at 135lbs and dehydrated, it wouldn't be a cakewalk but any big guy (and big by IST standards, not a fat guy but someone double his weight and lowish bf) will just end him.
It would be like playing with a child, a dehydrated and weak child.
If he's at a full 160lbs, well hydrated and fed, then things are different. The weight difference makes up for SOME martial arts skill, but you gotta at least be advanced in a couple of them because the guy is fricking elite.

Martial artists are not that tough or fast if you yourself are athletic.
If you have massive reach, height, weight advantage,, frankly all you need to know is to tuck your chin and check leg kicks.
Ground fight may be challenging for equally sized, but any bjj master will admit that beatint e
    G. 6'6 sized opponent at 5'10 is extremely hard even for bjj

    Dont overhype combat sports.
If an amateur Jake Paul can become competitive in boxing just for views, you can realize that with little training average gifted dude will be up there easily.
Only elite fighters are on their own level, like Tyson, Khabib etc but they are often a mix of genetics, lifelong training, environment and luck of draw, unique among others.
