>coworkers know me as the IST guy who lifts
>one day, coworker bro comes over to my work area
>cool guy but typical american body after enjoying a few cold ones every night
>”hey anon, im thinking about going to the gym and getting into shape, think you can give me some tips?”
>”sure, np coworkerbro”
>basically regurgitate the IST sticky, tell him about CICO, macros, basic cardio/resistance training programs
>recommend upper lower with focus around compounds, since a 4 day split works well with our work schedule
>tell him to watch a bunch of different youtube videos on form and proper muscle activation
>emphasize that form over weight matters more than anything in the beginning
>”sure will, anon. thanks for the tips”
>1 week later
>coworker bro shows up to work in a back brace, heads over to the “light duty area”
>”hey man, what happened?” i asked him
>”doctor said i slipped a disc in my back”
>”holy shit, how?”
>”i was doing deadlifts and i felt a pain in the beginning but i thought it was normal, so i kept lifting and then i slipped the disk”
>”well how much were you lifting?”
>”i had 3 45s on each side”
>mfw coworker bro snapped his shit with a 3pl8 diddly a week into his routine
I feel like it’s somehow my fault but I told him not to go full moron with the weight
Yeah. It's your fault. The only thing you have to do in that case is something like: "uhhh I dunno, I follow Chad Brolek in YouTube, he seems like a cool dude". If he survives 6 months, and if and only if someone ask you then you give them tips
This. The best way to deflect people who show interest in one of your autistic activities is to just tell them to "focus on the fundamentals." That's it. Say that then walk away. Obviously this works because the fundamentals alone will take you pretty far, but also, taking your training to the next level is entirely your own responsibility
It is your fault. You always communicate on an appropriate level. You dont go full sperg mode from the beginning even if you are passionate about it.
You start off with "ahh you know just dont eat mcdonalds, do little cardio then abs maybe use some machine light weight 1-2x a week". Thats the introduction, then depending how serious the other person is you can start going more in-depth with the diet and training and all the little nuances.
The best thing would've been to invite him to train with you, so you can personally coach him on form and how much weight to use.
Train with him after already spending 8 hours with him per day.
Are your coaching capabilities so shit that you can't teach a newbie the ropes in one session? I could teach somebody everything they need to know about building a good physique in less than 30 minutes, it's not that complicated
yeah but what are the chances of them actually retaining what you taught them?
Yeah I kinda get where you're coming from. Sometimes you need to frick around spinning your wheels just so you know what doesn't work. But yeah idk, I'd like to believe that his coworker would be able to go far with a helping hand, but then again his moronic ass was deadlifting 3pl8s before learning how to do them safely
Wouldn't go as far as to say it was your fault, sure you should have kept your advice simple instead of going over literally everything fitness but the majority of the fault lies with him. He should have studied more himself and from different sources. Maybe even go with someone to teach him the basics. You can't just go
>Yeah sure cliff notes from one conversation from one guy I know at work is enough to make sure I can safely lift my own bodyweight from the ground without hurting myself. Maybe tell the next person who asks you to start with the bar even if it's easy and to go with someone who knows what they are doing and that any sort of pain is bad. They can learn later the difference between good and bad pain. Don't beat yourself up too much, guy was probably gonna snap his shit up no matter who he asked anyway.
>coworkers know me as the IST guy who lifts
not hard when you’re american surrounded by beer bellies coworkers
i have 2 coworkers who asked me if i would consider training them, it's not uncommon if you're a mogger, fat dude sees women staring at you then asks you for training
Slipped discs can heal. You should have tested his flexibility before you sent him off powersharting. For athleticism and hypertrophy I still haven't thought of a reason not to do weighted hyperextensions and nordic curls instead of deadlifts except that deadlifting feels manlier. Shit happens.
It's not your fault that he's moronic.
This. You can’t linger on that shit. You can give people advice but it’s up to them to act appropriately. If you were with the coworker encouraging him to pull 315 yeah that’s on you. this guy just sounds like a fricking moron
>Telling beginners to deadlift
Don't.
It's a move that too easily leads to people ego lifting, because it's so easy to stack up the plates and even easier to lift with an extremely shit form.
Besides it's not even necessary to do that lift, just leave it out unless you actually know what you're doing and feel like including it.
Why would it be OP's fault lmao ? Any reasonable person would understand that 140kg is a big weight. Oh wait, they're americans so they don't use SI lmao
>what’s your routine like anon?
>oh you know, just some wii fit and zumba
>you’re lyinnng
>i can show you around if you’d like
>yes i’d like that 🙂
that’s how i introduced a qt coworker to lifting. if you cared for your coworkerbro you would have taught him the basics. just don’t go on autistic rants when they know nothing yet, it’s not going to stick nor will they listen. you should be able to gauge how moronic someone is.
Valhalla path can't be taught.
