Desk job ergonomics

Hey IST

Does anyone have advice for ergonomics for desk jobs? I just graduated university and I'll be starting my first real full-time desk job soon, so I'll be sitting and working at a computer more than I ever have in the past. What should I do to avoid RSI, wrist pain, and other stuff like that? I already have a wrist injury that never 100% healed, so I want to make sure I don't screw myself up further.

Thanks in advance!

It is as Plato says. A human is a featherless bird.

idk. i have a really strong core but i still curl up like a moron when im sitting at my desk. my advice is: standing desk, well lit space, plants. will make your prison immensely better and your productivity and mental health will thank you

Having worked some desk jobs I think it is good to stand up now and then, sitting down for 8 hours straight can have a negative effect on your health. Also to find some time outside of work to exercise.

Slav squat for 10 minutes total a day, preferably at home since youll get zogged by hr for being weird
Stand up as much as you can get away with without looking like a moron

Most desk job people literally just sit on their asses all day long and even take their breaks and lunches there. You will be the weird one out especially if you dont accept the non stop donuts and trash

It's actually a work from home job, so I don't need to worry about normie coworkers. Thanks for the advice, the job is mainly thinking and then typing stuff, and whenever I'm not typing I'll just stand up and walk around.

        I envy you anon
You should invest in a standing desk and a cheap mini-treadmill. Sitting all day sucks, standing all day sucks, but I've found moving just a little helps out the most

Split keyboard (external shoulder rotation), trackball mouse that tilts 20 degrees or so vertically. Standing desk alternate sitting standing every hour. Proper monitor height. Proper posture

get a walking pad, 2-4mph is plenty fast for typing and meetings. Shark fin / handshake mouse. Sit/stand desk riser. Standing mat for when you don’t want to walk. Sign into your computer while already walking to build the habit and force yourself to not start the day seated. Split microsoft ergo keyboard is good also. Get wired headphones that are not Bluetooth with a microphone. Free weights next to desk is nice also, can curl throughout the day.

I work at a computer all day with, sitting down with minimal breaks, and I feel great. I think the most important thing is to have a comfortable chair and to sit however feels most comfortable for you.

Get a stool with no back or a balance ball that you switch to periodically to prevent a weak core but otherwise so long as you do cardio you'll be fine.

Standing desks aren't magic but they are objectively better than sitting all day.

it's kinda crazy that people only consider college educated desk jobs 'real jobs.' like what real thing are you offering for your salary? plumbing or gardening or retail is 100x more real than some white collar number crunching imaginary job. with that said i am trying to get into tech for those exact reasons.

Standing desk, for siting get a chair without a back that is slightly jiggly so that you are forced to sit straight
alternatively you can have a chair that Supports yourself lumbar spine
If you crawl into the monitor, adjust the resolution and get appropriate glasses
Don't sit for more than 1 h, get up and walk a bit, this helps you not tensing up too much
Get an ergonomic mouse, it makes a big difference for your wrists

Get a standing desk. Try to stand at least half of the day. Also, avoid online meetings. Walk around and be sociable
