Diabetes

I think I might have it or at least be in an earlier stage of it. Anything I can do to stop it other than cutting sugars?

Low/zero carb is the only cure for type 2 diabetes. There's plenty of pharmaceuticals which will make the problem worse. That's the standard treatment.

I've been trying to limit my carbs myself to recover from prediabetes, highest A1C I got back from the doctor was 5.1 which is .2 off from diagnosis.
Still gonna have to get checked out by an endo though since I still can't gain weight to save my life.

If you might have t1d I'd go full carnivore. Type 1 is autoimmune and there might be a possibility to save your pancreas if you treat the autoimmune issue.

Carnivore is the best diet for autoimmune issues.

Yeah I'm hoping it's type 2 since it'll be significantly easier to manage

all carbs? I thought sugar is the culprit

      which?

Low carb is the better option over no carb unless you're a fatass, then you would go no carb until you shed the weight.
A diabetic friend of mine recommended just staying low carb and making sure the majority of those carbs come from whole grains and other complex carb sources.

carbs are sugar. they literally turn into sugar. if the amount of carbs is your problem it doesnt matter if it comes from pure sugar or something else. it raises your blood sugar the exact same amount.

50g of carbs from apple raises the blood sugar same as 50g of candy or 50g of rice. Rice is actually one of the worst offenders it raises it even quicker than sugar. Fast and slow acting can be nice in theory but in the end it doesnt really matter. I inject the exact same amount of insulin whether its fricking slow or mega fast.

        >all carbs? I thought sugar is the culprit
0 carbs are required so ingest none.

cardio is pure garbage. strength training is optimal. you want to have as much muscle tissue as possible to absorb extra blood glucose. nevermind the fact that lifting heavily can drop elevated blood glucose pretty hard. by straining your muscles you basically deplete your glucose storage and "make space" for more to be absorbed from your blood stream.

As always, IST advice is trash.
Either way, you need to increase your sugar intake and minimize your PUFA intake OP.

why would you take diet advice from somebody who had such a mediocre lifespan? Always look at who survives. Big bad boogeyman ancel keys lived to be 100, none of these keto and carni clowns will make it past 70

I have type 1, had it for 2 years now. Lost probably 60lbs before I ended up in the hospital and almost going into a diabetic coma. I was losing weight like crazy even though I was eating like 5k calories a day. I was hungry all the time. Had to piss probably every couple hours, it would wake me up at night every 2 hours. I felt weak and exhausted all the time no matter what I did.
If you have those symptoms go get checked out and diagnosed before you end up in the ER.
If you do have type 1, carnivore diet is the worst thing you can do. It will raise your ketone levels and put you into ketoacidosis which will lead you to the hospital in a coma or dying. You need insulin and a lower carb diet to manage it well.

Geez I'm sorry you had to go through that, at least you have it under control now. I know I lost 40lbs over the course of 3 months but at least I have since plateaued out at around 140. At my worst state earlier this year I was having horrible dizzy spells and nausea, not to mention taking naps just about every day. Getting checked out by an endo soon though so hopefully I'll be able to reverse it slowly if it's type 2.

Yeah it was rough, I do have it under control now though. My A1C was at 14 when I went to the ER and blood sugar was over 400. But my A1C is pretty steady between 5.7 and 6 and my blood sugar rarely goes over 225.
Well I hope you have neither. But if you do I hope you can reverse it as best you can and manage it well.
Diabetes sucks. It's a constant stress. If you have it it'll really bring you down at times. But keep at it, strive to be healthy, try and manage it, exercise, try and stay positive as best you can.
And if you do have it. If you can afford it with insurance or whatever the continuous glucose meters are amazing. They've help me catch some scary lows where my blood sugar just starts plummeting. And they help you see what kinda carbs spike your blood sugar.
I'm glad you're getting checked out by an endo soon, it'll be a much easier transition to catch it early.

Yeah I'm actually gonna order a blood glucose reader and track my sugars throughout the day keeping a log, because I know getting an appointment with an endo is going to take frickin forever.
I only had 2 A1C tests but my second one was 5.1, so right on the line of being pre-diabetic. I've been dealing with symptoms on and off for about 2 years now but that was because I thought I could reverse it on my own with dietary changes, unfortunately that isn't the case but I'm hoping for good news down the line. Biggest thing diet wise I'm trying to maintain is just keeping my carbs around 130g a day and making sure I avoid all refined sugars and seed oils until then.

That's a good idea. Check your blood sugar before meals, and about 2 hours after. If your pancreas is working correctly your blood sugar should stay between 70 and 120. When you do get an appointment definitely bring your log and see what they think. My endo can access my blood sugar data through my cgm and can help me adjust insulin doses if needed. I'm pretty dialed in for the moment though.
Yeah unfortunately just changing diet won't cure diabetes. But it will greatly help manage it. And that's good thinking as well, I probably average around 130g carbs a day. And the only time I eat any refined sugars it when I have some candy or something to treat low blood sugar.
Keep doing what you're doing and I hope your endo has good news for you!

your pancreatic beta cells proliferate at an optimal rate when challenged but not overwhelmed. You will see high glucose levels on zero carb / keto. Proponents hand wace it as muscle glucose sparing, but the fact remains that you are waddling around with a high reading doing god knows what to your health. So try ketard for a while, give it up after a few weeks because its miserable, like everyone does. Then do Macdougal and see your fasting glucose go down to 70 while eating rice and potatoes.

Eat less (especially high GI carbs), exercise. Build muscle and do cardio.
    >I think I might have it
You should do these things anyway but if you're worried you should see a doctor
