crunches are one of the worst ab exercises that exist. The worst being planks. Decline weighted situps are S tier.

How are situps different from crunches except for the fact that you are providing needless strain on your lower back? Crunches allow you to go through full rom on your abs while keeping your spine stable

        >sit ups, full ROM
        >crunches, 1/4 ROM

Crunches are better for abs specifically because you're targetting abs more directly

A crunch is full rom for you are abs

Lol, you don't know how abs work. A crunch IS full ROM for the abs. The situp is using your hip flexors.

redpill me on planks? i'm in beginner phase and they target my abs and sides really well.

Look at it this way m8, your abs are stabilizer muscles, why would you work them in motion? Also, unless you’re doing Janda sit-ups, you’re not working your abs, but rather your hip flexors. Also, if you’re working your hip flexors by doing ab exercises, you’re destroying your back. Here’s a list of ab exercises:

        >planks
        >vacuums
        >suitcase deadlifts
        >20 minute incline walk after your workout

But really, you don’t need any of that. A proper valsalva maneuver during heavy deads will work your abs better than anything else.

Since you won’t listen to me, hanging leg raises.

            >I require strength moving my torso into a 30* angle towards my wiener

Do you wake up every morning with a fat b***h sitting on your face that you need to sit up and escape? Your core muscles are stabilizers. They shouldn’t be worked in motion.

          >your abs are stabilizer muscles?
what even?? your abs are your main spinal flexors. not every movement pattern involves spinal flexion, but a lot of them do.

All you need to do is compound movements and sprinkling in some calisthenics, combined with a low body fat percentage.

just do reverse crunches and work your way up to dragon flags, there's a bit of progression with how strict you keep your legs and whatnot

      won't post body

I use the crunch machine at the gym so I can keep each set in the 8-12 rep range

I would get bored as shit doing the same ab workouts every time. I like to switch it up and switching it up usually keeps them pumped and sore.

Cable crunches and landmine twists. Abs are like any other muscle: load will give results faster since they are easier to reach failure. Bodyweight abs exercises are a waste of time because your abs have adapted to carry your weight through their whole existence. I stopped trying to convince morons at my gym of this, despite them doing 5x100 reps of some moronic Russian twists.

This is the only exercise you need

Why? There's no way to progress other than reps, how do you progressively overload this?

        Anonymous

You can go from kneeling to standing over time

You're right, though, after that point you're pretty much relying on progressing purely through reps

          Anonymous

Its not really a problem until you get to that point though.
I have a theory about using a large spring between the knees and elbows & trying to compress it.

Different color of ab wheels determines the progression and difficulty

        Green is the easiest
        Red is the most difficult

being able to do 10 standing wheel outs with propper form means you already have a really strong core. unless you weigh 50 kg or something but even then its impressive. fit is full of homosexual americans who just decide that they are masters at something without ever having done it

Idk I just do the "abs in 10 minutes" videos from Jeff Cavaliere. It makes my abs feel sore so I guess they work

Situps do not damage your spine if you do them with good form. Military style where you jolt up and fall down is bad
Squats, Dips, Hinges etc are not enough for abs. Some compounds like L-sit pullups do train the abs decently
Exercises like planks are ok but they dont cause as much hypertrophy or strength increase since they isometric.
Situps, leg raises(cpt chair or bar hang) and cable crunches are all excellent. normal crunches are fine but theyre short ROM is a big negative, I dont have exp with crunch machines
Russian twist is not for the abs, the twisting trains the obliques with sit at the side of your 8pack
Abs are not made in the kitchen, this is a phrase that means nothing. high bf% athletes will have abs and there skinny non lifters that are just skinny with no ab definition

    >How many ab/oblique exercises should I do?
Enough to make sure youre lower or upper abs are hit along with some twist to hit your obliques
    >Will bodyweight be enough?
Maybe at first but you will need progressive overload, just like anything else

      Anonymous

No, abs are definitely made in the kitchen.

Yes its a good exercise but why are you upset? Eddie Hall managed to have ab definition even when he was at a high bf% using them
