What does the game play like?
Plays like w tactical squad based war game with a deck of commander order cards. I quite like it myself.

How big are the star wars model armies? Is painting them repetitive (identical clones and clankers)?
The figures are like 1 inch tall. It can get repetitive especially when doing the small details like gaps in armor or the eyes on armor for troopers. But you can paint them however you like, spice it up and have fun with it.
They're not too bad actually, depends on the kind of army you play. I like a lot of infantry.
