yes, carbohydrates (and fibre) are essential for any person serious about maintaining a healthy body and mind.

carbs and fat are not necessary
you can live well if you eat only protein
you will die if you stop eating protein

        >The U.S. and Canadian Dietary Reference Intake review for protein mentions "rabbit starvation", but concluded that there was not sufficient evidence by 2005 to establish a tolerable upper intake level, i.e., an upper limit for how much protein can be safely consumed.[9]

literally Bible stories is all you have to support the theory of rabbit starvation.

That's not even the same thing you colossal moron. Cutting out fats and carbs and only eating protein can kill you. What you quoted was talking about the upper limits of protein intake. Commit harakiri at your earliest convenience

Fat is absolutely necessary, not that you can fully isolate protein from fat.

moron you can't live off pure protein you will starve. You need fat or carbs for energy. Preferably high quality animal fat.

They're not necessary, but it's stupid to avoid carbs in most cases.
    >I tried keto several times
So you consumed 80% of your calories as fat? If not then you never tried it.
If you're trying to push your limit in athletic performance, then carbs matter. You would know this if you tried. Plus, if you don't eat enough carbs then more of your protein will be wasted and converted to glucose.

I couldn't live without carbs. Most of my favorite foods are in the form of lots of carbs (pasta, spaghetti, rice, noodles, etc). I eat more carbs then protein most days. I am a skinnyfat homosexual so take this with a grain of salt.

A low carb diet is not necessarily ketogenic. If dietary protein intake is high enough, your liver will combine a glucogenic amino acid with a triglyceride to make new glucose in a process called gluconeogenesis. Keto dieting requires you to restrict carbs and protein with a high intake of fat in order to combine ketogenic amino acids with triglycerides to make ketone bodies. Elevated ketones in the urine is considered "ketosis". The USDA food pyramid recommends avoiding fats such as oil and butter such as are required on a ketogenic diet. Lean meats and veggies are not ketogogenic, they are glucogenic, abd cause weight loss. Carbohydrates can be "necessary" in the sense that they are a form of Calories necessary to prevent weight loss, same as fat.

Keto isn't the goal, it's a stage trough which you can achieve your goal of
    >Losing fat

I did keto, worked like a charm in
    >Losing fat

    Once you've
    >Lost the fat
you need to start a "new normal" in order to maintain your achieved goal. I continue with a low carb diet and eat carbs maybe once a week.

It may be because I'm in autoimmune disease circles but plenty of people I know do keto/nocarbs/carnivore for the anti-inflammatory properties rather than lose fat.
So once we find a diet that doesn't harm us (usually we cut off most cereals, oils, and fiber), we stick to it forever.
