It can be possible that muscular men are more confident, have better posture and are more outgoing, and thus have more success with women.

This might be anecdotal but I'm not particularly muscular and yet women let me hit cuz I'm goofy. I'm sure there's a correlation between being fit and getting laid, but I think it's more because being in good shape requires you to be at least sort of okay mentally.
"women don't prefer muscular men" is a statement about women.
"muscular men have more sex" is a statement about men.
Statements about groups have some subtleties to them, that are not taught because this education would interfere somewhat with mass propaganda.
Here are some ways that both statements can be true simultaneously:
1. the muscular men could be having sex - but not with women (implication: LMAO GAY)
2. the muscular men could be having all of their sex with the minority of women that prefer muscular men (implication: randier women want muscles)
3. the muscular men could be having sex against the stated preferences of women (implications: the women are lying; the women are telling the truth but are getting gamed by their patriarchal genes; all sex is rape and muscles help with rape)
missed the most likely implication on #3: the women are not lying, but women also want lots of other things, and muscles incidentally correlate with a lot of those things.

Women usually don't like extreme bodybuilder guys who look like they live in the gym and obsess over their diet like a woman with ED (i.e. shredded guys on roids). They definitely like "athletic", "built" looking guys, or otter mode. If you're natty, or /fraud/ but don't get crazy lean, and don't be a total autist, they'll probably like your look.
