Use spotter bars or use a rack so the bottom of the lift is safe to fail at (~1-3 inches of give).
Have three spotters (side spotters).
Don't sit on your spotter, try to actually buy time for other people to join in.
Pick a spotter who knows better.
Throw the back backwards and break your spotters legs in half.
