Does doing och 1x30-50 max effort pullups really increase your total volume? I saw this video on squat university that claimed some trainer had powerlifters do this, like 30 single rep pullups max effort a session and they went from a 6 rep max to something like a 20 rep max over the training block

Not reliably. The most effective way to increase reps with pullups or a lot of body weight exercises is called greasing the groove.
At its simplest form it's:
10(sets)x50%maxreps daily.
You retest your rep max once a week and only do one or two sets that day.
It's not recommended you do this one more 1 or 2 movments at a time.
You exclude this movment category from your regular training.
You don't do this longer than 6-8 weeks at which point it's returns have essentially capped out.
It's almost purely neurological and there's a lot of schemes based on doing this in differnt sets x repmax%s but all of them are just as effective as the most basic form outlined here so don't over-complicate it.
This but I wouldn't recommend the same movement daily, slight variations on it or the number of sets/reps can lead to more effective, less monotonous training.
I've tried it both ways and really it doesn't matter if you exclude it from your regular strength training. In calisthenics we do something similar called skill training which involves an emom(every minute on the minute) timer or some interval and do a single rep of whatever movment were trying to progress into. But that is used almost exclusively for things you're below what would be considered a working set (5 rep minimum) for training where you're over 8-10 reps greasing the groove is what works although it has limited application and is considered something of a last resort since it means whatever groove you're greasing could fall behind on strength gains if you're training it weighted. The variations really don't do anything special the adaptation is from high frequency work far away from failure.

Doesn't really work as well with pullups unless you're near 20 quality reps. Pullups like squatting and deadlifts are full of people doing them so subparly they mise well not be adding weight at all. More weight doesn't added scales really poorly with being able to perform more reps and vice versa. Idk why OP wants to do more reps if it's not getting him more muscle and I don't care this is just how you do it.

Indeed, when I was coming up we called it "Hollywood standards". One of my buddies would shit all over a prime celebrity and then tell you one of the oddest looking women you'd ever seen was hot because she had "bedroom eyes". I've experienced it myself, my mum watches those Kdramas and they look like aliens but when I traveled through Asia and met Korean women in person I found myself attracted to (some of) them.
