Does working out 5+ days a week actually help with bad depression or is that just a meme?

Does working out 5+ days a week actually help with bad depression or is that just a meme? If it's true, how much workout should you do per day to get the maximum anti-depression benefits? Any other tips to fight bad depression would also be nice.

Working out keeps you occupied with 'feels good' chemicals in your brain, distracts you for 30m-1h of the day (ideal time for a workout/cardio sesh)
as for anti-depression, going outside, touching grass, find a forest trail near you and go rooning, it pleases the soul - and most important of all, remember it's all in your head

Been there, but you have to remember that nobody is gonna reach out to you to get you out of your ditch, the only thing you can do is help yourself, whatever means necessary. Get a new hobby, interact with people, do fitness, whatever - find something that works and continue doing it until you're feeling better off.

It helps, but it's one of the less important things for your well being. You are human, so you need to satisfy all of your needs and instincts. Have a woman to cuddle an frick, live in safe area, be financially and career-wise secure, have hobbies and a social life. Working out helps immensely at the start, but later on if you ignore all of the above, physical fatigue will just become your next drug you will be using to try forgetting about said problems (just like me)

It helps. It's 100x better to be depressed and jacked than depressed and fat.

It's possible to literally and unironically earn all of these but still be depressed. You just learn to "it is what it is" it and continue living. After 10+ years it's just your normal and doesn't register as depression anymore. Don't ask how I know this. Pic related

I've found that an hour to an hour and a half a day of exercise keeps me more emotionally regular and uplifted. When you wake up and throughout the day you still feel tired, take a day off. Learn to listen to your body and autoregulate it

Your thoughts and emotions feed each other. Check out picrel. It helped me get myself straight when I was at my worst. After you can get yourself under control and youre more aware of what's happening in your head, you can start fixing what in your life made you depressed in the first place

Exercise regularly, spend time in the sun, do things that get you around people and away from your computer screen. Without specific understanding of your specific case that’s pretty good general advice.

be careful with working out every day I recently overexerted myself too much and got literally suicidal for a few days until recovered. for 5+ days you need light days mixed in until you are used to it.

Used to work out 6 days a week for a while, in the winter too. Its more of a cope and distraction from loneliness but no doubt its better than to sit behind your computer achieving frick all day in day out.

I hung out with my grandpas gf and she would laugh a lot. I noticed I liked her more after that and started laughing as a reaction when people talk about their day. if I don’t workout I get grumpy in social settings.

Sharing this to hopefully help you OP cause it all helped me. Oh and most importantly Jesus Christ saved me from depression.

Don't take my word for a medical advice but I think it depends. If the reason you feel depressed is because you barely move and not sleep well, you should see a great improvement when you start working out and get better sleep. If you feel depressed because of stress or some a particular thing that you experienced, working out will help coping with stress and taking your mind off things. It's scientifically proven that workouts and taking care of your sleep have a big impact on your mental wellbeing. Don't treat it as a medicine if you have severe depression and need further help but there is no reason to not try something that is free, actually works and will improve your life. 5+ days a week might be a little much if you're starting but try aiming at 2-3 good workouts a week + some walks in nature on yout rest days.
