45kg, 8 reps. no i dont touch my chest, you are not supposed to touch your chest. you should stack your joints, so your wrist and elbow is in parallel, this already makes it so that its just on the edge of your chest and then you should have a 45 degree and allow your wrists to rotate naturally when lowering the weight down. also you shouldnt drop the weights that low either and when i say that i dont mean do half reps, but it doesnt trouch my chest because there is a centimeter or two as a margin.

I have to use bands to add 5 lbs plates to the 100s at the gym I go to. I stop my heavier sets at 90°, which just barely touches my chest. I feel I get a better workout if I drop the weight and do higher reps, like 80 for 15 because I can go below 90° without touching my chest. My barbell 5RM is 315.

    >only barbell bench
    >get slight elbow issue from un-racking
    >start doing DB bench in stead
    >4 weeks in, hit 40kg x 10 which is the max at my gym
Full ROM and pretty narrow because that feels the safest.
The most useful thing I discovered from this detour is that low incline (15 degrees) smith machine bench might be the best lift for chest there is, massive pumps and palpable soreness patterns the day after that bias towards upper chest. Try it.

I don't like doing dumbbell press since I use olympic DBs and the collars dig into my thighs unless I keep intentionally positioning them to sit on the other side, which gets annoying.

If the dumbbell does not touch the side of your chest the rep doesn't count.

Agreed, as they get bigger you sacrifice ROM

The reason dyels love db bench so much is that they are using such pathetic weights the dumbbells aren’t even heavy.
I don’t even use dbs that much and I did a set of 17 with the 70s on the incline bench and they weee already a b***h to handle. On flat I can just lay down unrack 300 and do a single and rack it all by myself, with dbs the hardest part of the set is getting the fricking dumbbells into position. I can’t imagine how gay it must be if I want to do flat dab bench with the 100s or something.
