I've always wondered if they made the legion so absurdly misogynistic to discourage people from siding with them.
Have talked a fair bit about the game with friends and it's pretty easy to argue in favour of the legions practices in context "it's whats needed in a brutal world, democracy & liberties is a luxury humanity can't afford at that time" untill you reach "and btw every single woman is a slave spending half of her time in backbreaking manual labour and the other half as a sextoy"
A lot of Legion content was cut during the development due to the deadline given to Obsidian by Bethesda. So there's basically nothing available to show the Legions pros. IIRC they won't allow women in the military because they see them being more fit working as teachers and doctors and basically caring for other people overall. It's also mentioned that while the Legion territories are strict and somewhat conservative, they're also extremely safe compared to the rest of the wasteland. NCR on the other hand has women within all kinds of ranks in their army. The usual video game approach where genders doesn't matter because in the end it's a game with mutants, zombies and a relatively large fan base consisted of transexuals.
I actually agree the misogyny side is there to clearly portrait them as the evil faction. However I think the 3 endings portrait something like past (legion), present (ncr) and future (house) ways of thinking. Legion (the past) has a solid plan but it's been proven to fail eventually. NCR (present) has a somewhat unstable plan and shows signs of its eventual demise, and House (future) has barely any plans but a lot of promise. And then you have le heckin wacky yes man to top it off
