Have a friend whos dad was one of "those" runners. 10mi a day, never stopped, icicles hanging from his eyebrows and beard in winter.

Whole family watched him instantly drop dead mid-bite at dinner. Had zero indication of heart disease, any serum markers out of whack, etc.

this has been widely observed in runners-- the human heart appears to have an "amount" of beats in it, in some way. When you go over that amount sudden death is possible.

    He was 54.

Yeah but thats just poor practice, no doctor advocates ultramarathons, they advocate going for a jog.
Im not going to exercise less because of the poor outcomes a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction experience

i notice this constantly with you kids now. you don't know how to respond to what is actually being talked about. you just talk about something else. nobody asked or talked about what doctors recommend

Do you think say a joint has indefinite life and not a quasi-predetermined lifespan based on genetics (not accounting for activity)? Telomeres are a thing and we are not going to last in perpetuity by default.

All exercise does it let you enjoy aging a bit more, since your skeletal-muscular system is stronger.

Accumulated high intensity cardio stresses the heart in a way it can't recover from. The heart likes to work, but at a moderate level of recruitment, not beating out of your chest.

Basically, don't aim for fast paces, even if they feel doable, and don't run ridiculous distances continuously.

I think this kind of thinking applies to all cardio—moderate intensity and moderate volume, as opposed to the high intensity and high volume brought to strength workouts.

The heartbeat thing is true, all mammals live for the same average number of heartbeats, lengthened by capitivity but the mouse that dies in 3 years and the horse that dies in 30 have the same number of heartbeats before death basically. Humans should be dead by 35-40 according to this heartbeat theory.

      >an hour of 200% heart beats isn't worth 23 hours of 50% heart beats
This is why you're poor, you can't see the big picture.
