        I had to quit sugar completely before
        I was able to lose weight. I'm ashamed to admit I simply do not have the willpower to eat sugar, or sugar substitutes and overcome the resultant cravings.

      When the recent "might be cancerous" news were released, I checked out the recommend maximum daily intake and then how much of that stuff is in coke zero. You have to drink massive amounts of coke zero to reach the maximum. IIrc it was over 10 liters. Nobody is able to drink that much coke zero in a day.

        They have to have some sort of liner on the inside otherwise the aluminum would react with the acidity of the soda. Generally this will be a very thin plastic film. This is not just an American thing, as it's necessary to keep the can intact.

            Heats only catalyzes those chemical reactions with the plastic, they don't trigger it. If something sits 8n the can for long enough the plastic will still dissolve, just less and less quickly.

    Substitute soda with seltzer water. Avoid the artificially sweetened seltzers. Just stick to plain or naturally flavored. It's how I kicked soda and I haven't looked back. Polar seltzer is my preferred brand.

    Both are fine replacements for now. The goal should be to change your habits without setting off fears you'll never have things you like again. All fatties are overly attached to foods so if you cut out everything before you can find a healthy option you love, you'll fail eventually.

    Your goal will be to rely on water eventually. Not because sweeteners are evil, or cause insulin spikes, or cause inflammation, or any of those poorly supported half-truths. When you're truly ready to let go of food addiction, you will no longer need to taste sweet and over flavored things constantly. Getting there quickly will help you break foods power over you faster.

    Cutting back to seltzer flavored with drink enhancers or flavor extracts is your next step. Very liberating to have control over your food. Check out oooflavors for an absurdly large range of sugar and sweetner free flavors. Get some citric acid and stevia as well. That covers just about every flavor you could think of.

    From here, get used to non sweetened seltzer. Maybe a but of flavoring, some citric acid, maybe some apple cider vinegar, but just lightly flavored to not get bored. At any time now you can just pull back to plain water or carbonated. Enjoy your freedom from the old life and the junk food that dominated it.
